Apparently the argument for changing it was:
"I don't care what the noise is, I play FL on mute"
Which is blantantly retarded.
Blergh.
Sound is essential to a game's design and implications and feelings of the atmosphere, I can't believe how anyone can make such a dumb argument.
Yes. I'm peeved. Because I'm tired and I just came back from an appointment. Bite me.
Apparently changing the attenuation doesn't ban you from the server ( I just did and it's fine so far). But the change didn't really do anything noticeable.
But then, it's just sound. How can you possibly abuse a noise to give you some unfair advantage.
Seems anything to do with cerbs gets peoples panties into a right knot. Also nyx like i would tell you something that would get you banned..
Ive been editing the sounds in FL for years, if you dont like the sounds just go and change them to something you do like, you have the power to do so.
ive not seen a valid and calm explanation for why the sound is disliked so far, just a load of useless comments and dev bashing (as per).
I don't get what people's obsession is with making capital weapons sound like tank weapons or modern-day tech.
This is the future, have some creativity with it-- these aren't big explosive-based shells, these weapons are based on sci-fi. Have some imagination and make pewpew laser noises that /don't/ sound dumb please. (and if they must sound dumb, please make it comical-- EG the Star Trek TOS phaser noise)
Now, the current noise isn't /bad/ but I'm kinda tired of hearing it already after just a couple of days. Considering the time between patches, something like this is going to get very grating to a lot of people very fast.

Yes, I know you can change the source files of the audio. It's just better to be cautious.

Doesn't the OP say why?
Additionally, it sounds like a tank, it doesn't suit the projectile + and the noise is out of place. Maybe if the projectile was white/red like shrapnel or something, it'd suitable. Otherwise, as Scourge said. It needs to be energetic. Something plasma'y with a boom.

They are too loud in comparison with other weapons, even mortars, while having a relatively lame effect and damage per shot output. Their sound resembles something hard, metallic, focused, solid, while the shot is airy, almost weightless, soft, stuffy and produces a disappointing effect and sound when it hits something. This isn't an important problem though, but the neighbours being aware of it every time I play Disco is. I can lower the volume, of course, but I like hearing other sounds.
And by the way, a feedback about the stats nerf. Beware of battleships. Now they don't have to waste some interesting heavies by mounting cerbs in order to be competitive with other BSs. I like it. This might make them more immune to bombers, cruisers and, most importantly, gunboats. I've done a few tests in conn and I concluded that this should have been done later because some people (like me) have to study a lot these days and thoughts about Disco can't fit into their minds, except if they repress a few Ur-Nammus, Hirtiuses and Dollabellas.
Since my sound mod is pretty much the same thing i'll admit im baised to the booming sound of tankish ww2 battleship sounding guns, but i can see your point.
Also for complaints of the volume please read this quote. if that number (-12) is still too loud for you, just make it smaller to -15 or something.

Does temporary mean that it is going to be fixed soon?
Additionally, more about the nerf. It has also nerfed heavy BSs (except if they are equipped with cloaks) as most BSs have the same number of medium hardpoints, while artillery isn't useful against light ones, missiles have limited ammo and Razors don't function well as precision weaponry if 1 is mounted on the stern and the other on the bow. Maybe they would use a shield, armour, energy or medium hardpoints number buff. Idk, we'll see how the stuff goes after the balance tweaks.
