Like the tile say. We have liners and yachts for civilians, business delegates, prisoners, civilians and so on. But nothing really for marines. (No, I do not count the armored transport as a military ship.)
Would be cool to have a ship with 2k-3k cargo that it is designed for marines and other military troops to be deployed on planets/stations/ships. We could use them to move the marines (commodity already in-game) mostly for RP purpose. Give the navy and the other big ships something to move their troops.
I just think it would be a nice addition to have a military transport. You can use it to RP with it and even make some credits if you move marines and even crew with it. Factions could use them too.
Just an idea, what do you think?
Here's the Infocard:
The Gallic Armored Transport was designed to carry assault troops or war supplies to the battlefield without the need for a fighter escort, and is capable of directly assaulting capital ships and space stations. The Taureau was designed around the chassis of the Perilous GRN gunboat, but makes use of a less substantial power core, which freed up considerable space in the interior. The Taureau is thus capable of transporting an entire company of Royal Marines along with their battle gear. The favored tactic of a Taureau Marine assault is to blast open the docking bay doors with turret fire, often supported by a Perilous Gunboat, then land in the decompressed docking bay to disembark troops.
Due to the ship's heavy armor and defensive capabilities, it is sometimes used as a shuttle for prisoners, high value cargo, high ranking military officers, diplomats and even members of the Gallic Royal court.
To be honest, other than the Gallics, factions don't really need to have their Marine transports.
Actually, this is something I'm really behind. I love the idea of troop transports, so much so that I bought a GRN Vache and changed it into a Taureau so I could roleplay a troop transport if I wanted to. I plan on getting an LN Bison for the same purpose, and probably an Akegata since that's the closest Kusari has to this idea. I don't think Bretonia or Rheinland have anything that actually fits, so I won't make those until they have something.
I'd love to see 3k or 4k transports that are explicitly designed for troop transportation for the three houses that don't have them yet. The Outcasts/Core/Zoners/maybe even Corsairs(?) getting an edge worlds version of the armored transport would be amazing, too, and the Order would be able to use that as an alternative to the Bison, too.
I know, right ?! Also, for Rheinland I think Behemoth would (kinda ?) fit as a troop transport, all those huge antennas and the dish could be RPed into a forward command center or to be used to communicate with troops on the battlefield and with the ships in orbit.
I would like to see something specially made for this, as I said before, for RP reasons more than practical reasons.
I mean, we have a bunch of ships already in the game, would 5-6 more really hurt ? Variety never killed anyone.
That is an interesting idea and actually a good one... Currently I'm using the Borderworlds DL transport vessel to move military personale or the passenger liner.... But a more specialized vessel would be a great idea and would make sense inRP.....
Because none of those ships are specifically used as a marine transport/drop ship or a boarding shuttle. The Grizzly or Ragnar are civilian ships, and while they are good to "pretend" it would be funny to have a trader shipping stuff in his cargo while act like your ships is "special" and "heavy" modified for troop transportation. Also, as I mentioned before, variety. I understand most people afk trade or ALT+Tab trade, but there are also those who enjoy trading and RP'ing around their ships.
In my mind, troop transportation between systems would be made in Liners and some of the large transports, while transporting into planets, into assaults, or into other bases and large ships would be made with freighter class vessels. Some of our freighters don't really look suitable for the part, but perhaps some new, "sturdy" assault freighters would have the role/lore of troop transports into the dangerous areas.
Well the Bison is used as a "assault" ship, at least in its info card. But let's say that Bretonia decides to invade Leeds and liberate it, you can't have a liner standing next to Leeds, you would need some ships that will undock from a carrier or some battleship or something. Since this is a space only game, we tend forget the use of troops, after all, we're not in a certain very bad show where the pilots were both marines AND space fighters pilots. (Not gonna reveal the name of that show, it was too bad for that).
