Perhaps a lesson in being careful with whom you hang around with since it might bite you in the butt. :/

oh dear. yes. i edited my post when you wrote this one...
Perhaps the individuals should consider proving the admins wrong not by noting acts (or lack of) of the past, but rather forging ones for the future? I am very sorry if this sounds corny to say, but you get what I am hinting at.
That is pretty much what I did.

Leading a faction is not really a reason to unban him
I never said to unban him. He should use alternate avenues to get in touch with his subordinates and contemporaries to figure out the post-ban hierarchy of his factions.

Spazzy has a point. This all may suck but at least we can wait the time required and see if they can come back.

It's okay. As the old saying goes - To err is human.
I don't know why people are still talking about it, what's done is done.
We cannot change their minds, it's pretty obvious everything takes time, and maybe in the near future they will get un-banned but constantly whining about it won't help a thing.
Karst and Lyth are both great people, we do not have control over what is happening at this point in time.

So you arbitrarily consider some of the things he says in various chats destructive? And with "various chats" being random Skype chats you happen to be in with him. Of which discussed topics could be completely unrelated to Discovery in the first place.
Let me remind ourselves what sort of behaviour warrants a perma-ban. All the usual hacking lot, repeat serious offenders and continually toxic members of Discovery. We ban these people permanently because the infractions are heavy and/or numerous and very often negatively affects members of the community.
Hopefully, I am right to assume that whatever he said in chat really does have that strong an impact to warrant a perma-ban, or that he has been repeatedly warned and yet still continued to do so despite clear given warnings of a possible impending sanction. That his actions have such severe repercussions that he cannot be given a second chance despite his good past record and contributions. And in the case I assume wrong, I will have to express how bitterly disappointed I am with the administration team,
You may not have an onus to provide us with evidence of his wrongdoing. But you do have an onus to inform Karst that what he is doing is wrong and present the evidence to him.
