I'm beginning to get a little saddened by all of this ... Roleplay used to be characterization, and not the
writing of stories to justify a choice of ship and loadout for PvP. So what happened ?
There are few compromises now, a lot less common sense, and attacks on those who's RP is a part of
Discovery's history.
We used to pride ourselves on sticking to the sometimes unwritten rules of conduct on the use of weapons
available where they shouldn't be, not using those we could almost justify with a little tinkering of reps and
affiliations. Now we seem have a race to grab the best out there, and then we have post after post trying to vindicate their mounting and use.
Post -your- excuses please ...

hoodlum, unwritten rules. as i know unwritten rule was, that civilian weapons are free for all. now it is wrong.noone say nowhere i nforum that someone is limited in using civilian weapons. now we see that someone is.
Timmy has a Power Rangers lunchbox. He enjoys it well enough, holds his food and whatnot. Within said lunchbox is a kickarse sandwich his mom made for him and a banana. So far, so good.
Alfred sits down next to him, they're good friends, Alfred has an Eek the Cat lunchbox complete with a thermose holder and built in ice pack! -nice-. However has a lame PB&J -but- also a delicious pudding cup.
Timmy loves him some dessert and offers to trade his rockin sandwich for Alfred's pudding.
But lo! When the trade is completed Alfred and Timmy find to their amazement that they still have their original pudding and sandwich! But each now -also- has the item they so coveted! Deciding to dash pondering this miracle, they earnestly search the crowd seeking out friends, people who spent the night over once and maybe that weird kid who smells kinda funny, anyone who wont simply punch them in the face on sight; to trade out box, grub and maybe even clothes until everyone is fully optimized for a truly epic lunchtime experience.
Biggest problem I have with it is the use of the 'superweapons' by factions that shouldnt have access to them.
I'm sorry if your faction sucks because they didnt develop a superweapon of their own, but not everyone is meant to have the best equipment in the game. Using them is a pvp-whoring attitude, not an RP one.
These items are meant to distinguish some factions above others, and people need to learn to live with lesser equipment even if it prevents them from being able to take out fleets on their own.
The order is supposed to have some of the best technology in existence - that includes their supernova antimatter cannon. The justification other factions use for this is "well, we dont have an equivalent, and it's impossible for our bombers to take out capships without it". Did you ever think that bombers WERENT intended to take out cruisers and battleships solo? Start fighting in groups, nova torpedoes are fine when you've got enough bombers working together. The Order has significantly fewer pilots and ships than any of the house or other factions, therefor they need their bombers to be capable of taking out enemy capships alone or with very little support. It's a multiplayer game, start flying in groups instead of trying to solo your way through enemy fleets.
The outcasts were at a disadvantage for a long time at the hands of the corsair tizona and colada del cids. Over time they developed the inferno cannon and capital inferno cannons to gain more effectiveness against their primary enemy. In turn, the corsairs have battle razors, which rip apart hull instead of shields. There's no reason for any other faction to be using these two weapons unless you're directly allied with the outcasts or corsairs.
Yes, it puts a lot of factions at a disadvantage, but it's meant to. Liberty doesnt just hand out supernova antimatter cannons to their bombers - because they dont have the technology in the first place. Outcasts dont sell their infernos to lawfuls, and corsairs dont give away guns to anyone they consider an enemy.
It's really getting ridiculous how OORP some ship loadouts are. Almost every gunboat I see, no matter what the faction, is using infernos and razors. Every bomber out there is using supernova cannons. These choices are a pvp attitude and nothing more.
