I'm sorry, but I just can't agree with any of Eppy's points. The rights of factions do not include the right to take away everyone else's rights. If that were true (and we had enough people) then everyone would be making their own factions and claiming to be the most elite so that they could rule everyone else. The we'd have a bunch of silly civil wars that would be way out of RP. I have no problem with pretending to have all that power, but when you start exercising it for real on innocents it becomes/has become a serious problem. If you want to RP that you are the supreme force for the Corsairs, the Outcasts, whoever, that doesn't allow you bully anyone who doesn't follow your own rules. If your RP really requires that, then just give them a warning.
It's just a (roleplaying) game. Let the people play and roleplay.
Your point, Zelot, is made far more civilly than I made mine. Which is why it is gone now.
However, the more I think about it, the more I'm disappointed, not angry. I honestly thought that the people we as a community lay all of our trust to would, you know, actually trust back. Or at least listen. Now we've got a veritable half the forum population VERY angry over something that probably could have been solved peacefully with a few PMs, maybe an admin notice saying "hey y'all, if you would be so kind, we know it seems right but could you change this?" before nailing people who weren't PvP-whoring (the opposite, actually...) and weren't acting malevolently?
Guess I was wrong. Bye now, see you when I regain my faith in humanity.
I really hope that internet spat didn't take away your trust in humanity. what will happen when someone in real life cheats you in some way? :|
Not that I want that to happen..
but yeah you're correct, it could be solved between people, but I guess one side decided to get the authority involved. I guess negotiations were impossible.

Yeah right, like that works ... The usual two dozen threads complaining about the rules not being clear enough.
We do like to leave the responsibility for keeping in RP to you, most of the time.
This thread was posted with the usual ambiguity, just to see what came out the woodwork ... It wasn't even
posted as an admin either, but hey. Disappointed that its been dragged into the indies verses factions. Not
any need for that, shouldn't have any bearing on roleplay at all.
Carry on.

Some say he is a proud member of: "The most paranoid group of people in the Community."
Like someone said just a few posts before .... Common sense ain't so common mate...
This community has really grown much larger from the time I joined (very recent) and I can see the chaos
sometimes we have to deal with. Considering that I'm practically a noob (see when I joined), I can see where
you all are coming from - small bunch of players to a server with 200max and usually almost full !
There are 60-80 ppl even when it's nearing midnight here in oz!
With a large community such as ours, there will have to be more rules; common sense is just not going to cut it.
Some other issues:
- Some weapons are too powerful - origins not documented, available at wrong base - leads to abuse
- Pirate/Terrorist factions should not have the best weapons (except nomads - they are freaks) -
[rant]
if anyone disagrees then let's have <unlawful> displace <lawful> at <x> home system and be done with it.
They have the best weapons and armament - why can't they take over the house completely, what's
stopping them, RP ?
- Borderworld independents getting capships into house systems - without announcing an event and right
over the primary planet of the house.
I have witnessed 2 such cases where capships were destroyed right above Manhattan.
(btw, what's it Manhattan - looks like a giant magnet to me)
[/rant]
- Large group of gunboats entering house systems
- Lawfuls using 2-3 cruisers on lone pirate ship - happens (but sometimes there's no way of knowing if that
indep is within RP and has a fighter or is a capship)
- Codies should also be restricted by faction type (someone gave this suggestion in an earlier thread -
me thinks it's a good idea).
- Independents in house military are a bad idea - no control of ship type and rank
- Missiles are crap, so are most mines
- Shield types are a joke. There are far too many shields available 90% will be using 3% of the top shields
(this is probably related to the weapon imbalance)
- Cardamine, Artifact runs mostly OORP by traders (need I say more?)
Alaska is the highway baby!
Most profitable legal run is probably diamond-niobium - any thoughts why Sigma-13 is the whore house ?
My excuse - I have no excuse, ship is mounted with 2 codies, 2 nomads (temporary on one char)
rest all are faction weapons.
Trader is with Civilian freighter turrets.
<span style="font-family:Century Gothic">Spec - Independent Trader</span> Small Transport - Hauling without earning
Current Status: Inactive - Too Much Work and Travel
Hoodlum, I would like to thank you for complaining about how this thread has gone to an Indie vs Faction discussion, while completely ignoring my well-thought out, and questioning post. It is really quite affirming.

I seriously doubt that the Brotherhood, or any faction for that matter wouldn't have done it as soon as you mentioned it, just to be on the safe side. They might have (and probably would have, actually) complained, but they'd still do it.
And I don't think it's really come down to indies verses factions, the only reason that discussion ever pops up is because factions have entrance requirements, the server doesn't... you're damn right, it shouldn't have any bearing on roleplay, but if factions aren't supposed to be a shining example, then who is?

When you work with people, 90% of whom are complete morons who don't read the rules, your perception of the world gets phased. Trust me, I'm a tutor, and the most common response I get after explaining something in detail, or giving 150% is: "Yeah, yeah, I know."
The point is...see it from Hood's point of view. Just because you're a member of a faction does not mean that you are automatically perfect. People in factions have been sanctioned before.
Now, for those of you who are complaining about how factions seem to get more rights than individuals, you seem to shy away from the fact that treating a faction member differently from the others that get sanctioned is fair.
On the topic of the ship and the guns... Why are you taking it for granted that every admin has the time to read these things?
