This whole arguement has been going on for far too long now. I think its just stupid. Ships, Guns. I really couldn't care less right now.
There are issues here far more important, that have a genuine affect on how many of us are actualy having fun on this server. Right now if I even think about this whole fiasco I instantly stop having fun.
Use the Tigershark, please. If it would make this arguemnt go away. Use the debs 'cos aparently the corsairs don't have any good shield busters (WHAT THE F@*& ???), I coudn't are less. Just stop bloody arguing please!!!!
Today I have left a faction and argued with people over what is essentialy meaningless idiotic crap. I'm going to bed now and I want this all to have gone away by the time I wake up.
Night.
I like the "live with it" idea more than the "flame the admins" idea. Not that either is good, but lesser of two evils and that. Although the suggestion that its better to be unsportsmanlike than to push the boundaries of common RP with actual RP is disquieting, arguing with the powers that be doesn't seem to end well.
I am almost at a lack for words on some of the perspectives here. There is an old saying, "You can be right but not bright."
Everyone has their high ground--which is fine, it's human nature. But it seems many are missing the point that since you are on the high ground it doesn't make you "bright" to launch artillery barrages on everyone "beneath you". This seems to be the norm with number of posters here--and I am talking about old hands too--not just malcontents.
Attitudes like, "We have a faction so we have a right to control others" are selfish tunnel vision--doesn't help anyone.
Why don't you just notify the admin of how you expect him to enforce his server rules?
"Unwritten rules?" Those are ones that people who think they are "right" have no problem interpreting as they want--and of course, people who "aren't right"--can't interpret them and their opinions don't matter because they don't know them and can't pull a war record out to defend themselves.
Cliquish.
The simple fact of the matter here is RP/OORP has become more important than "fun". Being right is better than being helpful.
Pretty much the philosophy of communism--"We have to tell the masses what to do and use force to do it and once we've killed or imprisoned those who refuse to comply and beaten down and subjugated the rest, we'll have a perfect society." Our little sacrifice for the "greater good."
People complain about cap and wep abuse but look at how factions and individuals who are seen as "more right" use their opinions on this forum a lot of times--same abuse.
Too many chiefs, not enough indians.
Great players here, wonderful mod and the role play has real potential. To bad its spoiled by immature personalities and prideful selfishness so often.
When I was in the navy, I saw a common occurrence on every ship I ever served on. A new guy from another ship would transfer over. He would try to do what he did on his old ship and always talk about how much better it was their. Instead of learning to fit in, he would cling to the security of old experience and as a result end up getting in trouble because he wasn't dealing with his new reality.
Same problem here but inverted. The "plank owners" [another navy term for a person who has been onboard since a ship's commissioning] are clinging to the small group experiences they have had, their old mates and then analyzing everyone through that color lens.
Those are the unwritten rules--its the colored view of new players through the lens of old ones. No new player is going to know "how you used to play" or "what it was like when it was fun".
All they are going to see is a bunch of cynical examination and exclusion--though to the people doing it, it will seem right.
I think it's a great mod and in-game--with only a few exceptions its been fine. It's the forums that have sucked the life out of it for me.
I'm out--please consider the faction proposal as standing unless Oniros calls other wise.
Nice meeting the few of you I got to know a little bit.
' Wrote:Yeah right, like that works ... The usual two dozen threads complaining about the rules not being clear enough.
We do like to leave the responsibility for keeping in RP to you, most of the time.
This thread was posted with the usual ambiguity, just to see what came out the woodwork ... It wasn't even
posted as an admin either, but hey. Disappointed that its been dragged into the indies verses factions. Not
any need for that, shouldn't have any bearing on roleplay at all.
Carry on.

I have to point something out, at the risk of upsetting you.
Anything you post is read as if an Admin posted it. Because you are Teh Admin (one of them anyway).
Theres no such thing as an nonadmin post from an admin.
In response to your original thread I firmly believe that the "bad"situation could be rectified with training for "newbies" I think too many Disco Vets are too caught up on doing the RP thing that they are ignoring newbies at their own peril. I'm not talking about giving someone 200k or w/e then saying "seeyah." I'm talking about indepth training on how to RP ingame.
Just today I have come in contact with 2 newbies who have only EVER played FL SP. MP was a shock to them. Hopefully we'll be seeing them on the forum soon as I was 'pushing' the importance of the Forums. I spent over two hours each with them on how to get their own money, how to RP, how to talk and what to do in the game - along with asking what they want to be. As I am new myself there's lots of things that I still don't know but I'm learning.
If you want someone to change we're going to have to show them how, not just keep playing our own little games.

The force is strong in this one.
Kudos to having the patience to spend two hours newbie training.

In desperate times...
Seriously. I think we should make a faction of [RPTrainers].
They will fly around in New York and hook up with newbies
and do exactly that. Fly around, talk in RP. teach them about the
server and the most obvious rules, and about staying in character
always. How to make money. Whats changed from FL Vanilla or SP to
Disco MP. How to involve others in RP. How to ...
etc...I'm sure you get the idea.
I'd try to start such a faction myself but I'm not sure it'd get accepted since Im so new.
If no one else is going to put their hand up then im seriously considering it.
