According to this definition, only factions listed in this thread ("Faction Quick Reference Guide") by AC_Merc are official.
I am adressing this, since said thread hasn't been updated since September 26, 2007, which is nearly half a year ago. In the meantime, a lot of factions have been "approved by the admins" and added to the Faction Status Thread.
Said factions, their leaders and their members (and I believe a major part of the community) were or are under the impression that these factions were/are "official".
So, long story short: a simple state of excess of age concerning Faction Quick Reference Guide or a giant misunderstanding?
EDIT: Sorry, if I appeared a tad too excited... just had a closer look at the reference guide and found AC_Merc stating this:
' Wrote:Just a quick reminder... Only factions on the Official Faction Status Thread will be added to any portion of this list.
According to this, it's just a matter of the Reference Guide not being up to date, right?
' Wrote:List on the Factions page is yet incomplete and contains many unapproved factions anyway.
Actually, I took the time to cross-check the factions and move any not on the list to the Groups page. The only ones that remain are the LPI (re-added by Boss, in discussion) and the ones that avoided my efforts.
So if you find one that shouldn't be on the Factions page, either move it to the Groups page, or write it on my talk page and I'll move it for you. The same goes for adding.
I'm mainly talking about Benitez faction (that doesn't have tag and affiliation for some reason, although they are official), and about "Corsairs" faction below it that obviously doesn't exist at all.

That's just a formatting error, Benitez is a Corsairs faction and both should be in one line. Updating it now.
EDIT:
Was caused because of the tag '-Benitez'. Because of the leading dash the wiki interpreted this as a line break, and had to be put into a <nowiki> tag.
Sorry Igiss, after a closer look, you are completely right.
I just got very confused because many factions were considered official although their leaders hadn't posted yet in the thread. Again, please excuse me for the hassle I caused.
I think it should be pointed out to faction leaders that it is absolutely necessary to post in the Quick Reference Guide. A few factions leaders still have not posted there, probably because they did not they had to.

Maybe an admin should then work the player-postings into the first posting, this prevents unnecessary work on the Wiki. Because the way it is now, players could post in the thread and then say they are official by the guideline on the wiki.
