This idea would give the Junkers a ready to use bomber and stop gap between a fighter and gunboat until such time as the Junkers design their own gunboat,

Jinx could still develop the Junker gunship to be more competitive with a gunboat but this would serve as a svhf/bomber and would meet many needs.
a lot of players are opposed to a junker gunship/gunboat - they think junkers dont have enough reason to need warships. I cant say I agree really.. junkers should have at least their own, unique gunboat.
I like the bomber idea, but... the collector's color scheme/textures are way off for a junker-themed ship, I'd prefer something a little more unique looking.
Something like the model jinx already came up with, frankly this thing looks better than 90% of the ships in-game IMO:
As was stated in that thread...
-Make the ship a bomber-class, with high armor and a much higher power capacity than VHF's, but with similar manuverability (it'd have less armor and weaponry than VHF's, the manuverability makes up for it and fits the vessel's smaller size)
-Give it a 'main cannon' unique to that ship only (non equippable or buyable) that has power similar to the supernova antimatter cannon.
-In addition to the main cannon, give the ship a cruise disruptor slot (bombers without a CD are pretty worthless, honestly) and two level 10 gun/missile hardpoints - one on each side of the ship similar to the CSV/Collector.
The junker bomber would essentially only have 3 guns - 2 fighter-type guns and it's main cannon for ripping through capships - so it wouldnt be as effective against fighters as some other bombers are. The tradeoff of firepower is to keep manuverability though - making it one of the more manuverable bombers in discovery.
Forgot to mention - as always, as a junker ship it should have higher cargo capacity than the standard bombers and VHF's - but not enough cargo capacity to equip capship armor upgrades.

Wow--the repair ship is awesome hadn't seen that. I love the other ship design as well. It would work great as the ship proposed above. Hadn't wanted to change her thoughts on her ship so didn't suggest it but I'd take it hands down. the textures and all above are just a screen cap...not what I'd propose.
I agree that standard Junker ships would not have cargo bays big enough for cap armor--but this could be the exception. It's made to help fill the gap for bombers and gunboats. The armor is what makes it potentially viable in that role as it is otherwise weaker than a bomber anyway and nowhere near as well armed as a gunboat. Without the capital armor upgrade (which is ridiculously expensive anyway for a fighter-bomber type) the ship is a step up for trading in, with useful cargo space--very Junkerish.
This is weaker than many other factions ships but different than others as well. Would give the Junkers a unique capability..
I'm not going to ask for junkers to get some big bad bomber that can match up to the best of them... just a fairly agile bomber with a really big gun :D
the agility improvement over other bombers (the thing would, hopefully, be at least as manuverable as an average VHF) would make up for the lack of cap armor, and the naturally lower armor than is standard for bombers (most bombers have 20-25k armor, this would have, say, 15k).
The tactic being to dodge enemy fire like mad and blast away whenever your main cannon's recharge time is up. The two extra class 10 guns are there to help against enemy fighters, and for doing missions/junk mining.
The big gun though... would need to be unique to this ship alone. As powerful as the antimatter cannon, but it wouldnt be up for sale (i.e., it comes with the bomber when you buy the ship, so no other ships have access - perhaps make it so it cant be equipped by other bombers/VHF's as well). And... a big 'ole laser beam like from that reaper ship at the end of serenity would be cool for the firing effect. That thing had a wicked sound to it too...
Seeing as we live in debri fields I think agility is the key for Junker ships. Also since we dont realy get into combat all that much the agility would help to evade people.
If you ask me, junker gunboat should be something with a huge cargo hold, better hull few more turrets and thats about it. Some mix between pure trading ship and ship that can encounter an issue, solve it and still make it to the base with the goods.
Long range tractor beam too? =)
