Reconsider your texturing, as using different tiling doesn't count as HD. HD skins are textures where the total diffuse map has an area of 1024x1024, which Freelancer ship textures are 512x512 typically (as far as vanilla ships). If you plan on "re-skinning" the ships without contributing to the mod... don't. To correctly re-texture, many models would have to be unwrapped again, and this includes the guardian. You can see the texture pinching and stretching along the wings. So, unless you know how to texture, spare us all the trouble.

I may sound like an ***, but the blue wings doesn't fit into the feel of Freelancer. Their ships are not really that multi-colored. Agreed on the too much detail.
Also, I can definitely agree with the "If it aint broke, don't break it." mentality. It looks fine to me, don't mess with it. I like the aspects of Vanilla in the game and getting rid of those would not be appreciated.
