I really like that ship... Reminds me of the Mitchell from Starlancer. Ya know, the one that gets blowed up?

Admittedly... I don't much care for it.

The Liberty Battleship is, more or less, an actual battleship flying in space. The shape and design makes sense given the environment and purpose.

This new Liberty Carrier is, more or less, an actual aircraft carrier flying in space. The shape and design do not make sense given the environment and purpose.

In space you have the luxury of not requiring a landing strip upon which to settle your vessel, the vessel that is being proposed provides no protection and demands a great deal of vulnerability of the craft that would be attempting to return to the carrier, possibly in a state of duress.

Let's take the Galactica, for example. Perhaps not the finest example of a craft carrier but it has a pretty solid design concept. Two landing pods from which you can retrieve vessels, both of which are pack a significant firepower to deter any would be pursuit as well as clear the way for launching fighters. The landing areas are covered and well protected.

I would say that, in all honesty, a design philosophy a little closer to that of the Liberty Cruiser might afford a better 'carrier' design. Protected landing/launching bay with a strong emphasis on providing cover for fighters embarking and disembarking from the craft.

Heck, to take a leaf from Jinx's unique design concepts perhaps such a craft truly could serve as a 'carrier' with large reserves of botts/batts with a sturdy hull at a significant cost to offensive power.

(All that being said you're a heck of a modeler)

Do I add wings to it? =/

No, you don't need wings to fly in space.
In fact, I've always found it kinda funny that the way we space fly in FL is essentially impossible.

Quick point...

The flat deck, in my opinion, would be undesirable. With weapons or not, it is essentially a large, flat surface for projectile weapons to take advantage of and rip through. Over the years, science has shown that hulls with circular(or other non-flat designs) are stronger and more resistant that other hulls.

A few examples: A torpedo will more likely glance off a circular hull, and explode outside the ship, while the same torpedo may fly straight into the flat surface, penetrate the armor, and detonate inside the ship, causing far more damage.

When you have two planes of equal surface area, one flat: | and the other, curved: ) , the flat plane is a larger target. Easier for SNs to score hits.

Finally, the launch deck itself. In modern Aircraft carriers, the only place to launch aircraft is from a flat surface, the deck, due to the need to overcome the forces of gravity, as well as to provide aircraft with a stable platform to stand on before takeoff.

In space, this is wholly unnecessary. There is little or no gravitational interference(at least according to game mechanics, Stationary caps near planets should be falling into them...), and thus, no flat platform is needed. Instead, it would be more logical for the carriers of FL to have multiple launch sites, instead of restricting themselves to one, and making the rest of the ship a plow/icebreaker design.

Taking into account the massive capabilities of fighters and bombers in freelancer, a carrier probably needs no more than 6-8 Launch slots for it to be a devastatingly effective weapon(in addition to guns, of course) against normal capital ships.

We could launch 6-8 fighters one by one from the deck, or we could launch them from 6-8 ports lining the side of the ship, 3-4 on each side of the ship. The sooner these fighters get into space, the better.

Sorry, all it reminds me of is a flying aircraft carrier. Which, is what it may be, but I would think the design would've changed a bit. It is extremely well detailed and good work though. Just doesn't feel to much like a space ship to me.

as fpsdoug say,

model is well maked, but design is strange. this ship can not fit into fl universe. i think in space where is no air, no aerodynamics, are not needed big flat panels. (as starting deck on this carrier)

Agreed with Virus here.

Pull it in, Liberty loves symbolic shapes, so this one won't hurt.

I like it too, of course it remindes aircraft carrier, but whatever it would be absolutely unusual and iconic one. What you need to do is try to reduce that 'aircraft carrier effect' a bit. You got my thumb up on it.

Don't scrap it! It looks brilliant!
Liberty Dreadnought, naval battleship much?

A Liberty Carrier modelled as a naval carrier is just perfect. If all else fails, send it to me and i'll use it!:D
