Dawn entered her still new office on One. Still new, because she still hadn't got used to it. One felt... strange. Way less busy than Fort Bush, and so there was less to do. Less traffic to monitor, less data flow to check, fewer people to keep an eye on. Strange. Yet up round the clock, there was something going on twenty-four-seven.
And less good food as well. There were a lot of civilians on Bush, there were businesses there aside from the Police facilities. Not on One. Best she could get was those awful donuts and poor coffee. Or a cup of instant ramen. Not great, but good enough.
She'd avoid One anytime she could, preferring patrols into the deepest reaches of Badlands to One's annoying atmosphere. So she rarely even visited her own office on the station. I wish we'd move the HQ back to Bush from this horrible place.... she pondered. But nevertheless, there was something to do here.
Dawn set her cup aside and turned on her console and the office radio, playing a relaxing tune. She had received some sort of data from one of those Liberty separatists, Harmony. They were a Navy problem, after all, nothing for her own department to give a damn about, but the data would still be interesting. And, if anything, it could be shared with the Navy later.
She set in place the necessary precautions. After all, plugging unknown data sticks into a console directly connected to the Liberty Police mainframe would be a monumentally bad idea. There always were some burner PADs in the LPI storage, she usually used a few for her own goals as well, might as well use one of them. She took one out from her locker and plugged the data stick in.
There was nothing there but a text file to a Neural Net link and an SSH key, likely to decrypt whatever's at the link. She accessed the link and decrypted the data, obviously. The link decrypted and she saw a text, complete with the Harmony footprints. Everything looked rather authentic.
She set her feet on the desk and started reading.
"When one is made of glass, everything looks like a stone."
