Of all the governments/companies/factions/groups portrayed in Sirius, who is then one responsible for reproducing the "safe" version of this weapon? Where do I go to if I want to buy the reverse-engineered version of it? As long as these weapons can only be looted from infested or alien ships, there's where all of them come from, or do you propose that non-infested humans built it, the Wild robbed them and then you are just taking them back?
I suspect there would not be another Nomad gun thread after the others we had before but, history repeats itself, no?
I also suspect that there would not be a thread here if folks were not getting angry at being beaten by Nomad guns. I have yet to see a thread started because an opponets ship was too easy to beat. In fact I see most balance threads start after someone is defeated.
For the fighter cannons and blasters. They are converted weapons used since the first Nomad war. The technique was designed by humans to copy thier power source/ammo. I dont care who has them, as long as they got a reason, thats better than "look they do X damage." Theres tons of reason one could come up with, it is a role playing game. Lets not restrict our selves to a few lines of accepted RP and make this a choose your own adventure book. It roleplaying exspect the unexspected.
If any weapon is getting whored its the supernova anti matter cannon, which is based on the battle razor tech which is found on a planet next to a Corsair station and retro engineered by Order techs, so since every bomber out there has one, up to and includeing Xenos, because thier weapons suck. This would be called stacking the deck for PVP by some. I feel no need to regulate Nomad cannons to the players at large as long as there is RP for it. You will be able to tell cause there are some folk who dont know what RP means out there.
In which case they should be guided before being shunned.
When you fly around thinking that every person who has something you dont agree with is in bad RP, you are the problem. You are the one takeing folks out of character to debate an OOC topic.
In short dont worry about them so much. If you dont understand ask the player in question about thier RP or ask them in PMs. Most will give you thier forum name in space. If you cant handle a disagreement privately, and politely then you dont desearve to have it taken seriously.
PS. for references. If the shoe fits wear it = you.

Just for reference, if I have sounded too cryptic. I'm not against people using Nomad tech since they're available. My only questioning is of people considering them "safe" tech without having any references of where it's coming from. It's like eating candy you found on the floor. I'm just not sure if it's better or worse, honestly.
And about the supernova... Yes, tell me about repeating.

At least one bad effect to it that eating said candy will cause blue buggers come after you wherever you may be.:laugh:They don't like some bad kids eating their candies. So who said eating candies found on floor are safe?:nyam:
And then there are those who eat off the floor and, out of dumpsters. Safety often gets overriden by short sighted need. Happens all the time. Not a good decision but a believable one that leads to folks useing alien weapons in Freelancer.
the ID says that the weapons is modified for human use - it does not state that it is made by humans though. - thats up for interpretation.
but there is a think like over-regulating a server and overwhelming people with rules. - we don t need to limit nomad weapons. - they are often a first choice of lvl10 weapons, cause they are easy to get and quite effective.... in theory. but most people use faction guns sooner or later. - and i must say i m a bit at a loss why you get mad so much about it.
if we started to spam nomad battleships, i d understand the concern ( in 4.83 you could have spammed them, in theory ) - but nomad weapons are so common.... everyone knows them, allmost everyone has used them at some point, - and for everyone in the borderworlds its fine to use them.
militaries don t use them, cause there is something like "uniform"... so militaries don t just mount what they like. - anyway, i d consider it more serious to limit every aspect of the game instead of leaving freedom of choice. - again, there are very few people that mount 4 nomad guns/blasters, cause not too many factions have weapons that synth well with them.

As far as server regulation goes, I don't believe a regulation is at hand. As Jinx has stated, these weapons are too common. As in game regulations go, I think that we only gain in ambiance if we treat Nomads with due respect, not just as cattle to farm cannons and blasters from.

Hence my example of what happened here in Brazil with the radioactive material. The general populace (bar few exceptions) wouldn't care less (only if there was a great deal of fear propaganda). As far as the game goes, it seems that the whole Nomad incident wasn't so much unveiled to the general public, so I think a great deal of the people would in fact, not mind using some fancy alien tech, specially if it came in a recognizable package.
What I was trying to say is that for the people who have all the pieces of what happened during the war, they would be VERY wary of what may happen if these items keep being applied. In fact, I'd put Artifacts in the same group (that's why I can't really wrap my head around the Order/Corsair alliance).
Well, there are two sides of the coin actually. First one is that those weapons aren't really common, they're still exotic due to their nature, thus limited use and shouldn't really be more common than regular human weapons on player ships. Personally I don't think that's a big problem, however excess of said weapons kills the identity of the ships. Unlike situation with Supernova, that is hopefully to be fixed with Clayph's SN project, Blasters and Cannons aren't the only weapons of their class and usage available, so they aren't comparable to SNs in this context.
As far as historical part goes they were initially seen on Liberty ships during mission where Edison Trent and Co. ran to save president Jacobi from the clutches of Nomads and corrupted/infested Liberty government. That's when you see adapted weapons for the first time, they're even called prototypes. They are adapted for the use with human ships, that is true, but the timing suggests they originated and/or somehow in a certain capacity were developed by the Nomads for use on the infested pilot's ships to give them arms superiority, as seen by massive damage they dealt, in same fashion they equipped Rheinland fleet with cloaking devices that are, once again, are courtesy of our blue skinned friends out there.
As for the future of Blasters/Cannons - I think they will remain as they are, but certain changes will happen to make it more plausible in terms of roleplay. There is a work going on in that area, once everything will be ready and confirmed I'll explain details of the changes.
After reading this thread I have reconsidered my fight strategies. I am now going to dump my Nomad weapons as soon as I have time to log on. I better pick between the Reavers or Death Hands weaponry.
On of the primary reasons I got the weapons was to have a chance in PvP fights since I am not skilled. But I hope to get good training once I get time and see others at same time. Darn timezones.
EDIT: My RP with using those weapons was that I salvaged them from defeated Wild Valkyries in Sigma-13, they emanated a strange radiation and my ship was quarantined, after the quarantine, I asked what happened to those weapons. My mechanic Ken Rees said they're being reconditioned and and organic material 'dumbed down' so to speak. Making them less resistant to our computer and power systems. However, the process is still experimental. You are ordered to test to see if the new process works.
Thats my RP behind them, now that I am dumping them, my RP for this is: The process had mixed results, my ship has been impounded and I'm to be given a replacement Nephytys with Order weaponry, after a full medical exam off course. Can't be too careful.;)
