The Apostatas is a progressive faction that wants to modernize the Corsairs. This includes but is not limited to gaining knowledge, development and social growth. They believe that this can only be achieved by breaking away from a criminal life and gaining support from Lawful and Quasilawful Organizations. Apostatas believe themselves to be more civilized and better composed than their Corsair counterparts. Now considered Corsair rebels, the Apostatas are focused on overthrowing the current Elders on Crete to usher in a new golden age for the people of Crete.

With Crete’s ever growing power, major families that were once powerful and glorious crumbled while others rose to the seat of power. There were those who sought out more power to expand the Corsair Empire and relieve it from its food shortage. Such were the Castille and Cordoba, two major families who took the first step into creating a single banner to unite the Corsair families and a council comprised of each family head that wished to join. They took the name “Apostatas”, to signify that they were embracing an opinion and an ideology that is contrary to that of most other Corsair families.
Rumors of the Apostatas spread like wildfire on Crete and several minor families that sought fame and wealth offered their help. Their exact reason for forming has not been officially confirmed by anyone. Some believe that the current Corsair state of relying largely on foreign entities to supply them with basic goods was considered outrageous, while others say they banded together to create a powerful fleet to conquer new regions for the Empire. One thing was clear, the Apostatas were paving a new way for the Corsairs.
"Planet Crete, our once beloved home"
To achieve their aspiring goals they used diplomacy, money, a powerful fleet and organized logistics. The Apostatas believe that the Corsairs are more than just simple pirates and raiders. To build a more powerful and self-sustaining Empire they had to evolve beyond the simple thinking that the Corsairs had become complacent with. With this in mind the council of Apostatas decided to find more allies and trade partners within Sirius, as they knew having so many enemies was costing resources, man power and opportunities. But this new way of behavior and thinking was not easy, as the aggressive nature of the Corsairs had been there for generations and was showing clearly in the ranks of the Apostatas.
With time, most in the Apostatas learned and adapted to the more complex way of thinking. Once this occurred the council found themselves in a precarious position. They had realized that the society of the Corsairs had stagnated to a fatal point and that it was at the brink of leading to a social collapse within the Empire itself. With such a frightening prospect, the Apostatas council decided to strive towards a new goal... Modernization of the Corsairs. This new vision that the Apostatas were working towards would take time, resources and allies.
One House in particular always had favour with the Apostatas, Kusari. The Kusarians were the only ones that might lean towards peace. The war with Bretonia had set the Corsair Empire and the Kusarians on the same side. But when the war ended and the Emperor of Kusari was exiled, the Empire was once more on unfriendly terms with the Kusari Government. The Apostatas however believes that there is a chance for proper peace to be had between the two nations.
The war with Bretonia once again put the Empire on the same side of a new stronger house. However, the council of Apostatas had yet to decide on what their standing was towards them. The houses within Sirius had become enemies of the Empire through centuries of war, raids and pirating. With hard work and patience, one day the houses of Sirius would recognize the Corsair Empire as a house in its own right. But until that day and opportunity would arise, the Apostatas had many enemies to deal with and resources that needed acquiring. This meant that peace between the Empire and the other houses had to wait.

With the wealth of the joining families, the Apostatas were able to acquire a sizable fleet rather quickly. Thus enabling the Apostatas to trade with allies and smuggle necessary goods and equipment back. Food for the people of Crete was always a priority and the Apostatas made sure that the warehouses would always have food.
The constant supply of food however lead to cargo holds of simply just food, instead of equipment and supplies. The council realized that to enable the Empire and Apostatas to grow, they had to have food grown locally. But growing food on Crete would once again add costs and supplies on the Apostatas. The council now had to decide whether to push towards Cambridge even more.. or get allies to assist with the growth on Crete.
Leadership of the Apostatas is made up of the council, which consists mostly of the more powerful families and individuals within Apostatas. They organize everything from supplies down to the very conquest of new territories, however the elder of Apostatas is the mightier form of power within, as he is the one who will give the orders to execute any plans. One main course of action revolved around the Omegas and Bretonia, due to the Gallic invasion and the all-out-war. The neighboring house was vulnerable and the conquering of Planet Cambridge that will serve as the Empire’s primary food source was not out of the question. The capture of Antikythera Shipyard in the recent past had placed the Council of Elders and the Brotherhood under pressure to maintain and supply an extra shipyard.
"Antikythera Shipyard"
This was an opportunity that the Council of Apostatas took to request administration rights from The Council of Elders. The shipyard was eventually firmly under the Apostatas which enabled them to operate less under the radar of the Elders and placed them in a position to expand their fleet. While they stood as the front line against the Coalition due to sharing the Cayman system as hostile neighbors, the Apostatas wanted to grow their power despite having to fight off frequent enemies near their home.
The irregular behavior of the Apostatas was eventually revealed to the eyes of the Council of Elders by foreign interlopers. They had grown suspicious of the Apostatas rapid expansion of power and disliked the influence that they were

generating under their banner. An open trial was held, broadcasted to the entirety of the Corsair population. Apostatas Elder Alexander Cordoba was faced with charges of treason against the Empire due to circumstances that he believed had to be set in motion in order for the Corsair people to have a better future.
Any Apostatas supporters: civilians, military and fleet were hereafter exiled from Corsair space. Under the new leadership of Alexander's son, Ray Cordoba, the Apostatas and her people were swiftly moved to the Sigma systems with assistance from the Hogosha for temporary refuge. Ray, in the former shoes of his father, now tries to hold up the void that his father left in hopes of bringing about a tide of change for his people.
The Apostatas currently control one of the former Corsair battlegroups, consisting of 2 Battleships, the newly renamed Liberate and the older flagship Argonauta, in addition to 6 Cruisers and a dozen of gunboats with fighter craft support. These were produced, purchased and handed to the Apostatas with the help of the Brotherhood many years before their exile. They were maintained at Antikythera Shipyard in the now inaccessible Cayman system, which lost its jump hole connections due to an instability in the Omegas caused by the supernova of the Omega-11 star.
As access to Cayman was lost, the Apostatas no longer had a shipyard for maintaining their fleet. The exile from Crete meant they could not use the shipyards in Gamma or Xi, so they were forced to turn to their former hostile neighbors, the Coalition. They reached out a helping hand that the Apostatas simply could not refuse.
Since then, the Apostatas has moved most of their civilian population to planet Jiangxi and the surrounding Coalition stations in Omega-52, as well as to planet Gran Canaria following its annexation by Bretonia and the establishment of the Sydney Treaty.
With most of the civilian population presently safe in the Omegas, the Apostatas have now begun surgical operations against the regime of Crete in order to bring about a new age of modernization for the people of the Empire. They are currently focusing mostly on guerilla type warfare, with the majority of their military operations in the Omicron systems, but also launching joint attacks with the Coalition in the Omegas in an attempt to keep the ever growing Corsair expansion in check.
The Apostatas have garnered the support of multiple organizations with a common agenda of suppressing the Council of Elders, to help them in retaking their home-system Omicron Gamma and to free the people from the wretched cycle of life that presently exists on Planet Crete. To one day truly become a proud House of Hispania.
