As Sanako spoke it became aparent that her mind was completely set on going through with this project. Alex couldn't blame her since this was clearly something she has been working towards for quite some time. While he still felt a little betrayed about her hiding her true intention in the beginning, he didn't feel too bad about it in general as it was very well compatible with the overall spirit of the Canaan Project of improving human capabilities by the means of cybernetic enhancements.
In that case a good start would be uploading your schematics and concepts to the Canaan link to make it more easiely accessible. As soon as that's done we can start woking on creating a frame to mock up the parts on we create afterwards. Now I guess not every material you need is one that can be just purchased. Not even for the obviously large sums of credits you seem to have at your disposal. As you now know the Canaan Project has a thin but effective network of professionals spread around Sirius, tasked with the acquisition of had to optain materials. As soon as we compiled an initial list with the materials we need for the first draft we can transmitt the information to them and one of them will deliver whatever we don't have here right now the next time they're in the area. While talking Alex returned to the scratched metal table and pulled up a blank document on the embeded holopad.
The data have been uploaded seconds ago. Also, aside from schematics, it includes all the concept arts i've made over time... in case someone would want to use them as well. I doubt it, but who knows... Meanwhile - consider sitting by my side, making yourself your usual and sharing a drink with me. Afterwards - we can make a bit of training 'with my new abilities.'
She sipped her drink, the glass she held was only half-empty so far, as she tended to stretch out one's pleasure - about almost everything, whetever it is only a drink - or something else. However, she just tragged another soft chair closer to her and gestured towards it, inviting him to take a place.
Through, plenty of thoughts were roaming through her mind; not quite used yet to the new speed of their processing, she was still missing like half of what have been passing through, thanks to the short-term memory she still could tell what was those thoughts about. Fujinomiya smiled, focusing once again on her drink and waiting for Alex to accept her offer.
Now this is truly fascinating. I barely got myself out of the operating table - and i surely adore the effect of those enhacements. I just feel like a completely new person.
Alex returned from the bar, a whisky sour in hand. He slowly walked over to the chair Sanako pulled up and sat down, taking a long look at her. From one of his coat pockets he pulled a small metal cube and an instrument that looked like a cross breed between a file and a scaplel. He placed both items in the middle of the Table he sat at with Sanako.
I will transmit a three-dimensional image of a rose to you. This metal he pointed towards the cube in the middle of the table is very soft, soft enough to work on it with this file here. I want you to do your best to re-create the rose from the three-dimensional model and of course not destroy it by applying too much pressure. This exercise is not only a great way for you to get a better feeling for your abilities, but also to learn from it and re-calibrate your augmentations. Something you will notice very quickly is that just as with all the abilities you were born with, mastering your cybernetic enhancements can take a lifetime of tinkering, calibrating and training. Alex transmitted the 3d-model of the rose and gestured towards Sanako, in a 'the stage is yours' kind of way.
Alright. Let's see how this is going to work out...
Putting her empty glass aside, Sanako reached out with her hands to have a firm grip over the cube of the soft and the scalpel, stuttering for a moment in hesitation - before actually making a first move towards carving a copy of rose that was just 'uploaded' to her memory; as Fujinomiya have seen it - it was a question of two moments: her dimensional imagination, and the precision of each moves she makes with a 'scalpel' - with the lack of the better options she decided to call the given tool that way - after all, it fitted the knife pretty much. In Sanako's opinion - of course.
She. eventually, wasn't in too much of a hurry - doing her each move with great relativity to her augmentions, she started with carving the roses' stem - on which it was supposed to hold, rensembling it's shape, it's torns with utmost attention brought to every detail including even the thorns positions all along the stem.
She was going to not just replicate a random rose flower - but to bring to life the same exact models' shape she had in her mind - that's what Alex probably expected her to do, maybe not within the first attempt - there's no limit of perfection, right? - but he was expecting her to do [i]her best[/], according to the main goal of their current meetings - to allow Sanako to get used to her new sensation of the world, and to get her to know how to use the augmentions that were performed.
As the result - she have been carving the rose blossom with a steady, careful moves, starting with removing unnecessary metal parts of what appeared to be a cube, forming a sphere holding at the top end of the stem, first carving the leaves on the bottom of it's blossom and then moving to start carving the petals, first removing more unneeded metal from the sphere and then eventually starting to carve the petals - starting with the bottom ones, to which the leaves were attached, and steadily moving upwards, with no rush neither unwary moves that would ruin the composition, slowly the rose have been taking it's form in her hands, that seemed already somehow used for such job, and now being simply more capable of performing it with her most recent body adjustements.
Alex watched her closely while her hands dragged the scalpel up and down the metal block. Her movements were still a little loose in their superhuman percision. It reminded Alex of himself a few weeks after his initial modification. She definitely was a little faster of a lerner than him; then again technology has progressed quite a bit since back in the day...
As Sanako finished her project, Alex adressed her once again. Impressive. Progress with you is really fast - you managed to get about 95 % to the model. I believe we can bring that down to about 99.5% with a lot of training and adjustment. Alex pulled his chair closer to Sanako and put a finger on her forearm. Would you mind holding your bloodflow for a second? He pulled out a scalpel of his own (an actual scalpel) and made an insision on her right wrist. He carafully pulled up the enhanced sinews a couple of milimeters, before retracting his scalpel and waiting for her skin to heal. Try adjusting the controlling software yourself this time. While Sanako made the adjustments, Alex pulled out another block of metal. Let's try again.
Sanako only made it to realise that she thought of stopping her bloodflow and, after a brief moment, When Alex proceeded with the incision - not even a single drop of blood could be seen on it's edges - until the moment it have fully healed. No one would have a clue if Fujinomiya surprised by what she have just seen - considering her emotionless expression that she loosened only for a moment; noticing this would be enough to tell how she really felt about the scene she just happened to spectate.
Looks like there's yet so much to learn about the augmentations and their mechanics...
She spoke quietly, putting the scalpel aside, deciding this time get to it in slightly different manner - she touched the cube, 'felt' it. The basic idea behind this was for a better understanding of material: soft, pliable - but it was still a metal, something to reckon with and something to be treated with utmost respect.
To succeed - you should first 'understand' it. And, of course - to adjust your own software to fit the hardware sensitivity. Only after re-exploring the cube with tactile sensations, she turned to scalpel and slowly, steadily carved another rose, touching each element she accompished - to see if it follows the shape of the original model provided as a bare concept in her mind. It took quite some time using such methods - mostly due to adjustements made soon after the new element was initially carved, but that way it should be a perfect replica - or, at least, a nearly perfect one. On finishing the adjustements of the final element, she passed the new rose to Alex: slightly blushing while doing so, pretending to be shy to give men a hand-made flower.
J-just don't thing i've made it for you, or something! I-it was just a test!...
The stage play was almost perfect - if only she would get her thoughts together and not to giggle at her speech.
Evidently it took Alex a few moments too long to catch on the joke. He was about to blush himself, when he caught on to the joke Sanako was pulling. He tried to play it off, but she really got him good this time. In a second attempt to diverge her attention from the slightly awkward situation he cleared his throat, took the rose and inspected it closely. Yeah, that's it. Maybe some more adjustments to your left arm, as well as maybe the index- and middle finger of your right and you can see where you go from there. Don't be discouraged if it feels like you're not going anywhere progress-whise for some time, just keep trying different settings. I might be approaching 99.7% accuracy, but it literally took me decades to get there. This detail made Sanako listen up. Alex looked like he was in his early 20s'. 'Decades', so at least two. The cybernetic enhancements can lower the aging process to a stand-still. She wondered how old Alex actually was. If you want to give the rose - or pretty much any other object, a try in your down-time feel free to help yourself. There is a whole crate of that soft metal in storage module 101 in the middle row of shelves. Alex casually leaned back in his chair looking into empty space. He was obviously sending or receiving some information. Maybe regarding one of his projects, maybe documenting Fujinomiyas progress, or maybe he just deleted himself being awkward from the recordings.
Putting the scalpel aside, Sanako stood up and walked through the room to the bar, among all the options picking a simple 'tea-in-a-bag' option; it was not the time and not a place for a full-scale tea ceremony, however, they could afford a little break with a warming and calming drink at hand; the general procedure included filling the kettle with the water, boiling the water and making the tea using the hot water, sugar, and possible ingredients that would fit the person for whom the tea is made for.
And usually it wasn't taking longer than five-seven minutes to make a couple of cups of tea.
Here.
Sanako spoke, passing a cup of tea to Alex and leaving one for herself, once again taking her place at the red easychair.
I hope you're going to enjoy it. I could make you something else if you don't. Apparently, someone stored some drinks recipes on the Network.
Alex took the cup from Sanakos hands and held it for a few moments before taking a sip. Thank you, it's very good. Has been ages since I had some tea. I actually uploaded all of the drink recipies to the network back in the day. You know, back then the nanites were still in an earlier version and kind of bad at preventing sickness. We also had to fix some side effect the modifications had with limited equipment that showed their ugly head after we left Gammu. Sometimes they caused infections or diseases that spread quickly on the ships. We lost a lot of good people during that time. I uploaded the recipies to lift the mood and help treat some minor colds with some tea. On that topic, make sure you don't make disinfectant with schematics dated older than 815 AS. Those still rely on the ingredients we had at the time.
Hearing Alex talk about those early days of the Canaan Project made Sanako curious about the parts of the Arcadia that didn't consist of movable modules. No categories or names have been assigned to them, so there was really no certain way to tell if they served a purpose. They probably still contained some mementos from the time Canaan came to be.
Sadly now the drink recipies are rarely used anymore. Most of the crew members have their go-to beverages now and even I try new things less and less. It's cool that you found some use for them.
He gave her a soft smile mixed with something Sanako interpreted as melancholic nostalgia.
She suddenly clinged to the cup of tea of hers, she focused her gaze on it's content, apparently this brought back some good memories from the past, as she was intending to share them with the only person present.
Last time i've been drinking tea almost two years ago: when parents showed me the Bishamon and proposed it was brought to Kyushu to turn into my possession as soon as i turn twenty; on the next day, we've celebrated my birthday, and all the guests tended to drink exactly the same tea; i never knew for sure, but, i suppose - it was my parents' favourite tea and they acknowledged no other drinks or tea sorts. I have intentionally remembered this recipe to recreate it for someone i consider 'a good friend of mine.' So - please, enjoy your tea, Alex.
She took a sip of her tea, continued with a warm smile on her lips.
Oh, and...
Sanako stuttered for a moment, thinking about the best way to represent what she had in mind.
...Well, since this might recall to a pleasant nostalgia... i might study those drinks and make some of them from time to time for you, like a true bartender. Something tells me - you would enjoy it.
