Hey everyone, I was wondering what the official rules are regarding pirating NPC ships. I'm thinking of creating a Liberty Rogue or a Molly character armed with the Scylla Destroyer.
I have noticed numerous NPC ships laden with 4000 - 5000+ of cargo lately while navigating trade lanes. I understand RP with other players but what steps does one have to take to legitimately pirate NPC freighters? Is this considered alright by players or is this frowned upon? I mean clearly the local Navy & Police Forces will have something to say about this if they witness a player preying upon largely defenceless super-transports but for all you Pirates out there, is this something you do?
-Any references to relevant Pirating guides are always appreciated!
Yeah I just noticed as I explored further outside the "core systems" of each faction, (New York, New Berlin, New London, New Tokyo) etc there aren't that many capital ships to contend with but many large transports filled with commodities and at most a heavy fighter escort to defend them. Thanks for clarifying that it is ok to Pirate transports but be wary of the local Navy/Police forces.
Any advice on armaments for a Scylla? I have been told the Solaris Turrets are really worthwhile but the damage output doesn't seem to be all that high, they just have a rather high rate of fire. https://discoverygc.com/wiki/Class_7_Turrets
If you want to shoot at NPC transports with a Scylla, I would recommend full Rogue Cruiser Turrets. This will allow you to shoot them from a safe distance, as well as fend off enemy players who happen to come across you. Because the Scylla has such a high turret count for a Cruiser, you could pick up 4 Solaris for anti-fighter shooting, a Light Mortar for when enemy cruisers come to play, and 8 Rogue Cruiser turrets for sustained damage, if you find yourself the constant target of PvP. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with going for pure Rogue Cruiser turrets, or mixing them with half-and-half Basics for energy management, if this is more of a PvE oriented ship.
Scylla loadout is pretty straight forward.
1 light mortar at head slot
2 cerberus turrets for needed punch against bigger ships
2 pulse cannons for deshielding
Rest is rogue cruiser turrets
