Interesting post you dug up from January here, Backpack. I hope it's still relevant as I would also like to cast my vote for 2. I don't believe the player-made factions here all really fit into the RP environment very neatly, massive factions like AW and now the new CUFF who don't really play a particularly RP role... (come on, once new CUFF is on it's feet both of those clans will make up the majority of faction players on the server, and you're all pretty much border-world freelance mercs? How about some diversity guys :0/ ) plus outsiders wouldn't have a clue where these player-made factions fit into the overall game, making option 1 a pretty selfish move.

I also highly disagree with Dab's much earlier post threatening the force of "250 Warriors of Aesir" to push his opinions on Igiss. You guys may all be friends in real life, I don't know, but that just sounded out of order to me. Discovery is Igiss's baby and he should be free to take it wherever he wants.

Option 2 is the way to go in my opinion. It would make the RP aspect of this game more relevant. It might also cut down on having players come here just to continue their clan wars. Let's be honest, the only reason CUFF came here in the first place was to fight AW. And the way things are looking now there will be only AW and CUFF with no room for the rest of us. Then we'd be playing FactionLancer for certain.

It would also keep people from starting factions on a whim and then leaving them to rot when they get bored. (Yes, I've been a vicitm of this myself. Anyone remember the Cylons or the New Order?) Both factions started up on rather silly ideas RP-wise. Then dropped like a hot potato.

Actually, with option 2, you can still have player made factions. Just name your chars with your tag as a division of the NPC faction.

AW DOES have an RP purpose. We aren't a group of freelance mercs. We are an organization, a military organization that is a group of mercenaries. Banded together to have bigger numbers and be more dangerous to who we are after.

But the main RP reason is in my RP posts elsewhere in the forums... AW had a very real RP reason behind it. If you can't dig deep enough to find why we have always been enemies to Phantoms then you just didn't dig. First research to actually find out if you are right or wrong before assuming your just right.

And maybe this new CUFF will think of RP for it, he seems more mature and dedicated than the old members were.

Now, Factions are aligned with NPC factions.

Dab, you missed my point completely. What I said was not downing AW at all. Nor did I mention the Phantoms. I didn't even remotely imply 'Phantoms'.
