Something I was thinking about, now that we have the /pimpship options, is creating a couple ships that have a number of light hardpoints arranged in a grid on one or both sides of the ship. With careful planning, it would be possible to create customized messages or even pictures on the ship.
Picture one of those LED sign boards that show a variety of messages, only being stuck at one message without going to the shipyard.
Granted, there is potential abuse in this. I would not put it past someone to write a swear word on the side of their ship, or fill the slots with the large strobe-type lights, but in the right hands, it could prove very cool.
I was thinking about this too, but I had to words how to explain it yet.
It would be very, very, very hard to make a text/pic with lots of light hardpoints. As about abuses, we always have the print screen button and our beloved admins.
Could be fun, but not by using lights. remember that the total number of items - weapons, equipment, lights, trails, engine, unmounted stuff should not exceed 128 or bad things happen.
Oooow, I'd like to paint custom .mat files instead of siggies. And no expert said (yet) that's impossible. I certainly wouldn't mind some more lag and not even ships with pink fluffies on them or so.
Also that stuff sounds tertiary to me, so I guess the best one can do is to pray to Eris, or maybe the devs.
We did this for EvolvedOnes with billboards in "Orbit" around planets. Stuff for Synth Paste and all sorts of silly things. The factions in question could also pay credits to get advertisement boards placed around Sirius.

Thumbs up in my opinion.

Love this idea.
Corporate factions would certainly make use of advertisements for selling their ships and products and maybe even for recruitment. Such boards could be placed in busy areas of Sirius.
