*As always, the Captain Yann Blackwings likes to have some rest moments, and where he can meditate on any sort of things.*
Already three months…. Three months ago, my life changed. Already three months that I realized… Three months ago, where the fate started up!
*He remembers this terrible day. This moment is still here in his head. He goes to the window of his quarters, on Marshall.*
Yes. I still remember. I was then for some time, I do not remember any more of since when very exactly, captain of a cruiser of Liberty, formerly known under the name of LNS-Arctique. I was in the secondary fleet. My best friends in Navy died on the Gallic Front. It is necessary to say that we had no rest. My crew and me fought since a moment, still I do not remember any more how long, in California.
The rhythm was exhausting. The only thing for which we could hope by waking up, was to go to drink a Liberty beer once the assaults of the Gallic ends and still, if we survived. However, it was the war; we did not have to complain. We are soldier, and we chose to be it. We have to accept this.
The war in California and to Magellan looked like more a big circus certainly without beast or real acrobats …The Royal Navy attacked daily at the end of morning. The King always brought his favorite wildcats: his gigantic Valors in tight formation, with their formidable Warwolf. Lambs in this story it is us. Even if I have to admit that lambs really have no their place in a circus…
The favorite tactics of wolves, it is simply to charge in and to plant their fangs in our soft flesh… in metallic alloy. Once the Valors are in range, the only thing for which we can hope is to have a place in a rescue’s capsule. At least, for our battleships, little agile and easy to hit. However the cruisers, our agile LSC, are more complicated to destroy for battleships.
If I managed to survive so for a long time in this galactic slaughterhouse, it is undoubtedly because I command a cruiser. Agile, fast, but also powerful. Its forward gun, the Valors do not like it. It is easy, with a little of experience to neutralize alone, a Valor with one cruiser, owed less when this one is isolated, otherwise you can always draft your will. We can easily escape battleships and battlecruisers with a tactics which I developed myself.
In the afternoon, after we have repelled again in misty wood of Magellan the Gallic; with losses so important as if we had to count the number of deaths, we could spend there a whole day; we can have a break until the next offensive. Even there, it is the same story which repeatssince so many years. We can have a chance to beat these war wolves. However, it would twice be necessary to be more numerous that they are and it is generally the opposite.
At the end of a few years of fight with my cruiser, I managed to have some moments of glory, for example during offensives which we led against the King in Magellan. My services to the Navy attracted the attentive eye, although little interested, of the Navy high command. And then, I was entitled to some advantages and rewards…
*Two hours spent. Yann seems to be tired. Once again, his mind made him lose his notion of time.*
Arhh *Sighs*, finally I didn’t had the time to finish this story. This day, three months ago, I will talk about it later.
*Suddenly, the Major Cheryl Augustine from Harmony battlegroup knocked at the door.*
Cheryl: Yann! The Navy is in Bering. We need your help now!
Yann: Roger that Major Cheryl. We are coming immediately.
*Yann left his quarters, and before to close the door, looked at the room, and said:*
Well, at least, fight the Navy with true friends, and for a true ideal, is better than kill frogs all the day. Especially, I don’t like the taste of frog’s legs.
The Gallic front allowed me in particular to have the gratitude of the Navy High command; also they decided to give me advantages and rewards. It was in February 825 A.S.
The first one of these rewards was certainly the most useful, I have still it today. It was about a new type of cloak disruptor adapted for cruisers. Navy possesses it very limited copies; I moreover saw no vessel of Liberty to be equipped with it in the time.
I have seen immediately the interest of this new equipment: as Valors of the Royal Navy have practically all a cloaking device, he would allow discovering them before they uncloak and attack. However, I never had the opportunity to use it against Gallic. Indeed, the High command sent me to the system Texas, to fight against in what we said in the time in the rest of the Fleet, the Navy traitors under the control of the Nomads; the Battlegroup Harmony.
Finally, the last reward was doubtless the most important of quite. My cruiser was from now authorized to enter the system Alaska without limitation, as well as to have a right of accosting for the main stations of the system, worth knowing Juneau Shipyard, and the Kodiak Research station. I had a childhood friend to Kodiak, in particular a professor who worked on experimental weapons. I had not seen him any more since the Military academy. Then, I took advantage of my permissions in the way go to pay a visit to Kodiak. It was February 15th.
Once on the station, I asked to the guard if I can talk with the the professor, by telling them that I was a childhood friend, and by presenting my rights of access. They accepted, although with a certain hesitation. I found them moreover very strange these soldiers. They had a permanent aggressiveness, sometimes emitted singular sounds. It was as indescribable, they were not as usual. They were cold, deprived by the slightest feeling.
Although I did not pay it particular attention at the beginning, it was in fact about the first sign of the Nomads infection, but I had not become aware of the thing yet. I finally found the professor in a isolated room, not very far from research laboratories. However, the conversation was aswell, singular. He seemed to be more worried about my presence here than to be delighted at it. He warns me then of a terrible new:
" Yann, you have to leave Liberty now! Nomads took control of number of our marines and admirals. They are all infected from now. If you stay longer, you will also be infected. You have to leave Liberty with your crew at all costs! "
At the beginning I took this information with a lot of backward drop, asking him how he knew it, and which proofs he had. Suddenly, he got up and showed me a narrow window which gave onto laboratories. I got up in my turn and looked then. What I saw was inconceivable. We saw scientists there, with strange lights going out of the eyes, speaking an unknown language and grouped around a strange device, with a purple, indescribable body. I moved back of bewilderment and fright.
For the first time, I had in front of me the proofs of a real infection Nomads within Liberty … I turned to professor. However; this one confirmed me that he was not infected:
"I simply created a look-alike of myself when I learned that I was going to take a medical exam, when I was already a professor on the base, and became aware of the infection. This examination was actually a mask that hid reality. When the look-alike, a man who I had cardamine drugged in advance, was infected during the exam, I then removed him from this world. "
His answer horrified me. How to believe such a thing? I left the station anxiously, and left Alaska. Since there is mutual trust between my men and me, I have told everyone what happened. But how to leave Liberty now?
"Yann Blackwings, you are going to contact Admiral Victoria Knight from Harmony Battlegroup!"
This sentence seemed suddenly then one of my dreams, a few days after the events on Kodiak. I knew that my crew and I were in danger. Sooner or later we would be all infected by Nomads and reduced to the state of vegetables.
Since this reversal of situation, my crew and myself looked for a way to hide us, or to run away from Liberty. We had a large range of possibilities:
- Badlands, with Buffalo base
- Independants Worlds as Kepler or Bering
- Pirates bases in Liberty
- Bretonia House
- Simply to abandon our cruiser and become Freelancers living in Sirius.
Naturally there was a problem for each of them. Rogues would not simply have considered us and would have eliminated us to take advantage to have Liberty's cruiser at their hands. This conclusion was also imperative for the rest of bases pirates in Liberty. Bretonia would have been a good refuge because Navy has the authorization to penetrate into Bretonia. However our fleet does not go there anymore and it would have been necessary to cross the dams of Royal Navy, which is not at all a simple affair. Abandon our cruiser and leave as Freelancer was plausible. However we wanted to fight Navy and to begin again a new very quiet life while knowing what took place is more a treason to the humanity than something else.
We so had the last option, that to go to the independent worlds. Kepler appeared at the beginning as the best solution. The Research station Ames belonging to Zoners would have been our base of supports. And Navy arranges only patrols in this system. We would have been able to by follow it to get in touch with the local entities such as Lane Hackers. But I had in mind another idea, that of Battlegroup Harmony with the system Bering as refuge. Maybe it was a good idea to work with them? The voicein one of my dreams consolidated me. I was however still sceptical concerning their mission. A necessity of having more information appeared.
With the agreement of my crew I decided to contact Admiral Victoria Knight. To prevent Navy from spotting our communication, I used one of these communications satellites of Navy which we can find in the system Texas. One of my crew members is a small genius of computing and to pirate a satellite to send a message is only a formality, especially as we have the codes allowing to connect the satellite. The speed was essential. With this type of hacking we can send a coded message without Navy detects him only during ten seconds.
Finally, on March 1st 825 A.S we sent the message to Harmony. Henceforth, we had to wait a possible answer, if it comes...
Greetings Victoria Knight, Admiral of Harmony battlegroup,
First of all, i want to introduce myself. I'm Yann Blackwings, captain of the Liberty cruiser LNS-Arctique in the secondary Navy fleet. During severals battles, i fought many of your ships and soldiers. I'm currently on the Gallic front since a long time and i've a great experience of this war. Today if i contact you in the biggest offense of the Navy rules it's because the light begins to go out..... Bretonia will be probably defeated by the Gallics and i'm sure Liberty will do nothing to avoid that even if we are in war against the King. Liberty has many problems this times: the actvities of pirates has increased and the corruption Inside our government is more present than ever. To tell you, i'm afraid that Liberty is collapsing. I could not see a Liberty controlled by the Gallic Royal Navy or by some group of terrorists who would do anything to make chaos takes hold. But if i write this message is about your battlegroup. In the Liberty Navy high command, all of our generals say Harmony members are traitors, they practice terrorism and to top it all say you have been infested by the Nomads Incubus. I've heard about a secret event in Alaska with the battleship Harmony and the LSF. To know more and because i'm well seen in the Navy i've tried to check in the archives. But it's necessary to have the rank of Admiral and there is many systems of security. My crew and me would want to know who are you in reality, your intentions if you take the power and if you're ready to stem the Gallic Invasion. Maybe my ship can help you in the futur if it's relevant. Like i've written above this communication will stay between us and only us and my crew. You're of course free to trust us or no and to answer us, but if i'll can have your kindness, it'll be a great honor for me.
I did not have to wait long for Admiral Knight's answer. Only a few hours after the transmission, we received an encrypted signal from the Bering system as expected.
We have decrypted the message and discovered the Admiral's response:
The first surprise was undoubtedly that the Admiral agreed to answer us. Indeed, she would have very well was able to not take into account the message from an officer of the Navy. But also a big surprise was the open-mindedness of the Admiral. In her message we could find in particular the answer so waited: shocking and blatant proofs of the infection Nomads within Liberty. From now on dice were thrown. After dialogue within my crew we made the decision to join the Separatist fleet. Still the Admiral have to trust us and accepts our help. We wrote a second message with these words:
I want to thanks you to have answered us. It's a great honor for me to talk with the Admiral of Harmony.
We have well received the Information Package, and we have read it. I must say i'm very surprised and shocked by what i could discover. The Navy showed a great violence towards you and that's not the valors i've learnt during the Academy. That they did to you have horrified me. You have also demonstrated a lot of courage during this hard moments.
But all my crew and of course me, are in a complete decline. Liberty Navy has currently controlled by the Nomads. The battle in Pensylvanie is the best proof. This Nomad battleship who only attacked you and show a behaviour almost allied with the Navy...... It's a feeling i can't describe. For me you're not the traitors, that's in reality the Liberty Navy and the President. Now, your organiszation is the only one that it Worth the peace in Liberty.
You have now my whole confidence and would to offer you my help against the Navy and the Nomads who infects the high heads in this House. This may seem surprising to become overnight your allied, us who have fought you fiercely in the past. But how not stay insensitive face this terrifying reality? Do nothing and stay on our position would have been an act of trahison towards humanity. For the moment i'll not join you directly in the field, we need to prepare this moment. But during this time, we can help you by providing you with secret informations on the Navy. I'll can find experiemental secret weapons and projects of Nomadification of the fleet. I'll communicate you all this informations via a pirated satellite in Texas system.
Admiral, do you accept my help? I wait your answer with impatience
Best regards.
Yann Blackwings, captain of the rebel cruiser LNS-Arctique.
***Tansmission Ends***
To show to the Admiral our trust, we gave us as first mission to collect all the data which we could find within Navy. While waiting for the answer of the Admiral we asked expressly for some vacation the High command of Navy. We had had no rest for approximately one year, and Navy accepted. This small masquerade had to leave us enough time to get ready. Besides we were authorized during this period of week approximately to fly where we wanted within Liberty including in the systems guard. We went to the systems Alaska and Virginia in particular.
It was about four days before the last Admiral's response came. During this time, we had already read about our future home...
As we were, although non-officially still allied with the Separatists, we judged that it was good that we acquaint at first with our future house. The present of freedom that had offered us Navy made this operation a little less risky even if it remained.
The next day after we sent our answer to the Admiral we went to Bering. Only Freeport opened the fire on us, but the other Separatist vessels or their installations left us in peace. We detected a little time after our arrived in the system a strange radio contact from the South. Consequently we took the direction of the sector from where we supposed, resulted the radio transmission.
In the neighborhood of the jump hole leading to the system Hamburg, we met a flotilla of Unioners vessel, composed of the cruiser Silber Fuch and as well as several fighters. They just came to arrest a civilian transport of Liberty who crossed Bering. The Unioners showed themselves totally surprised of the presence of a cruiser of Navy also far in Bering. Wanting at first to eliminate us, we quickly explained to them that we were not hostile and that we were allied from now on with Harmony.
They understood strangely fast and welcomed us respectfully. However, it seemed that I was unfortunately followed since Liberty. On our scanners, we then detected strange signals near our vessels and as a strange voice in our head. I understood then what it took place and asked to activate the cloak disruptor. My fears confirmed. The radiations of the disruptor allowed to take out a vessel Nomads of its cloak. Sadly. Nomads already knew what we plotted. The surprise was doubtless that they tried to intervene by them even and not by means of Navy. My case certainly had to compromise their small plans …
The enemy vessel did not delay to open fire on us. Seen its fire power, it seemed that it was about a bomber. However, Nomad or not, he could nothing against my cruiser. This as well as a few seconds after the beginning of the attack, the Nomad was eliminated by a blow from my mortar. The situation being secured I began a long discussion with the captain of the Silber Fuchs, countess Alise von Ravensberg. For four days we gave ourselves rendezvous in a secure place in Bering. For this day, the countess represents among one of my friends the most privileged.
At the end of these four days, The Admiral answered us finally and began then my Liberty's extraordinary escape …
Obviously, I perfectly knew my escape would be not a tea party. The Navy would probably discover my little plan. And I was not wrong.
The time was come to join definitely Bering. Harmony Battlegroup waited me there. I was assured I could have reinforcements if I was under a Navy attack.
My cruiser was docked near orbital prison, not far of the Mississippi. With my crew we have taken all that we needed, and left. The plan was to directly jump in Bering by the trade lane between Houston and the Bering Jump gate.
With many precautions we took the lane. But my fear obviously came. A Navy force was waiting for me at about 24 clicks of Bering Gate. They disturbed the lanes, and in front of me were a carrier and a Navy pilot. Immediately, we have activated the engines, and cruise in direction of the Bering Jump hole.
However, the Navy knew my intentions, and made a blockade. I didn’t have any choice to cruise to the West and ask assistance to Harmony. Still ten minutes later no message came to us. We were alone. Or not totally. The carrier and the snub were still behind us. The snub used some cruise disruptors. Many of them failed, but one finally hit us. We have been forced to fight. I changed the direction and moved to Bering jump hole. A fight started between the carrier and my cruiser.
Our mortar damaged the carrier, but our cruiser however was damaged. We couldn’t fight more. And we learnt other Navy ships were incoming.
But a hope appeared. We received a message from the battleship Harmony itself. He was coming to help us in Texas. But first, we had to move to the hole.
We decided to break off, and cruise again. The snub used again some cruise disruptors. And the carrier was still so closer. We couldn’t hold until Bering. But I noticed the snub used many of cruise disruptor; also I asked to scan him.
With surprise, we discovered it only has four left. It was our chance. We cruised again and until it didn’t have disruptors anymore. It worked. We cruised away and they couldn’t stop us. The fighter retreated but the carrier still followed us. We saw the Harmony near the hole. In the same time, many Navy ships were approaching. We jumped with Harmony together and waited behind the hole in the way to trap the Navy.
But they never came.
We finally went to the Freeport 2. From here started a new life…
