I had an incredible dream about Freelancer last night and I wanted to share it with everyone.
Alright, so, it was as if I was playing the game. I was in an Omicron system under control of the Corsairs. It had a neutron star or black hole (I'm not sure what it was) in it. I decided to fly towards it to check it out and fill out my nav map and info card. Well, it turns out that unlike literally everything else in Freelancer, this thing actually had working gravity, and as soon as I entered the ring system around it, I got slingshotted into a minefield behind the neutron star (I'm pretty sure that's what it was.) and I died.
So, I respawn, and I decide to fly around the neutron star to see what that minefield is protecting. On the way around the neutron star, I find a space station and dock with it so if I die I'll respawn there (I guess this was in multiplayer.). I leave the space station and continue on my way. I get to the minefield and discover that it's protecting an experimental jump gate. I dock with the jump gate and I end up in this AMAZING system called the Thaumiel system.
The jump gate was only one way so I'm stuck here, but it's beautiful. Below me, there's what I can only describe as an interstellar waterfall. The system is bathed in this pink-orange light. The "Bottom" of the system is covered in what looks like the vanilla Freelancer Dyson sphere, only there's trees and buildings and other stuff on it, so I can only assume I'm on the inner surface of the Dyson sphere or something.
Anyway, I fly down to get a closer look at the Dyson sphere and I find a damaged part of it and fly in. Eventually, navigating through the rubble and debris, I discover this gigantic door that I can dock with. I dock with it and a cutscene plays.
It was like a professionally done cutscene, fully done animations and everything. The interior of my ship is fully modeled and everything. Anyways, I get a device of some kind attached to my ship. This alien dude tells me I need to go find more scrolls or whatever (Proteus Tomes) and that I'm going to have to dock with a base that's inside of a star, or something. I'm flying towards a star and then the dream ended.
