So, as I stated in a previous post (which you may want to read, but for the love of god, don't post in) I want to see if we can't revitalize smuggling RP beyond "Drop the cargo or f-ing die, scumbag." This is anything from my proposed idea, to actually trying to RP a drug-bust/check-point beyond shooting at people till they drop 'teh goods.' So if you, as a specific character, or if you're a faction leader and you'd like to try this, post here and let me know.
Already have two.
Cpt. Somerx - Myself
Underbridge - Adv. Train
See these two people smuggling and they try to RP with you? If you're up for it, RP back. If not, get your hands off me you damn dirty apes.:P
I'll play along somewhat, although all my chars have a Discovery scanner...
the only one that really scans people agressivly for contrabrand is Vengeance, and if he even senses something's amiss you're toast. But if you see me coming and you manage a PM ooC message I'll try to play along.
Well, since you "locked" the last one, I'll post here.:P
Cocked, locked, and ready to roll with some real RP! Sick of all this PvP-seeking (see meh post in the mining/missions thread thing). If Magoo scans you, and you have a significant amount of contra-blockers, I'll just sound like I'm baked (people usually think that for some reason:)) and say something about you being suspicious and proceed to mumble about Nomads. And my Bounty Hunter may or may not care... Depends on if you have a bribe readily availible (also depending on contra-blockers). *yay, corruption!*
Run-on sentences, wee!
Sign Magoo! up for me (character) and Nessie (my BH team). I may add to the list later... I have way too many characters to remember all their roles.:P
P.S. Omgsmilies.
-Edit- Oh! And my trader Steven Mattingly may take a walk on the wild side some time. So he might smuggle (maybe, doubtful, but maybe) some time, so him too if you'd like to sign him up as well.
Smuggler:
Argent.Star: Bactrian currently, aiming for Pirate Transport.
Lawful:
Floyd.Roberts: LSF, ship undecided (but will be civilian/freelancer, he's an undercover type).
Amber Brown, the captain of the Argent Star, does most of her smuggling to illegal bases rather than of illegal goods. Light Arms to Montezuma and such, so the lawfuls tend to not see her much. The closest she gets to a lawful base is Rochester most of the time... maybe a trip to Pittsburg if she can profit off it. I've already decided that Manhattan is strictly off-limits for her.
Floyd will generally ignore minor offenses, depending on the specifics... just be ready to answer some tricky questions in a believable manner. I admire the ability to think on your feet, so if you pull out a good enough answer, I'll let you go. Especially since he's got better things to do than deal with smugglers.
Well, I just had my first go at it, and some of you may have seen the result.
Death: Cpt. Somerx has died.
That's what I get for shooting a Rheinland decontamination team and pushing them out the airlock. We'll see if they do a report on it or not, very fun.
So I failed this time, but what do I expect trying to smuggle in Rheinland!
You had to have my boarding party shot to death, Orvidos? They were trying to help contain the fire.:rtfm:
Anyway, what was really funny is that it started only myself and Orvidos. Suddenly half RM appeared out of the blue. I guess that contributed for his character to lose his cool.:nono:
Add Diivide to the list of RPing smugglers (Pirate Transport, obviously). Always happy to engage in delightful banter about why you should let me through.
I generally avoid trade lanes and busy checkpoints, though, so you gotta catch me first! ;)
Also, generally with my RP I don't work from a script. I'm quick on my feet, so that's my strength. Asking me to play along in a charade is generally trouble as it gets hard to resist randomly changing the direction of the conversation. A diatribe regarding the necessity of a trade embargo is easily derailed by "Jus' so you know, all 'is talk 'bout punishment an' discipline is makin' me HOT! When's yer shift over?"
This sounded like a lot of fun. Sadly, this never happens to me. It's usually...
' Wrote:Before we go nuts with blaming lawfuls, keep in mind most smugglers simply speed dock, and give us no time to react, besides the usual halt!
This.
' Wrote:y'know, there wouldnt be problems with people 'speed docking' if the liberty lawfuls would get away from manhattan.
Guarding jump gates doesn't usually help much either since they'd most likely use jump holes (and what lawful guards JHs?). As for guarding stations, they just fly 20k above or below the plane and cruise literally right under our noses (and who patrols the z-axis anyway?). And as you said, guarding the destination is futile thanks to speed docking.
To summarize, all my smuggling encounters have been boring, tedious, and not very RP at all. I fear for the stagnation of my character.....

That's what we're trying to avoid here. Hopefully people will pick up on this list and see that there's more to smuggling than "Oh look, lawfuls, down/up we go until we hit an invisible SPACE WALL.
But, yeah, Diivide, that bit with Gronath wasn't scripted beyond 'let's do this, now!' (Skype ftw.) It turned kind of ugly at the end there, as he said. Ex-pirate + Smuggling military equipment + Half the f-ing RM sitting about a football field away = Bad things. (In this case, a dead decon team and me all 'splody like.)
But, just keep in mind whoever posts their characters on here, and try to do them the courtesy of RP if at all possible, when you actually catch them smuggling.
