Yea I saw it too i even showed it to wolf but it seems he didnt get the idea of the possibility of having that in the game, but then agian i didnt directly asked him.
Been here since Discovery 4.77 (lurk mode engaged)
Zapp Wrote:I have recently met and discussed with Atalawohisdi the trader that flies the Caribe. Just so everyone knows, I engaged in Sigma 13. He flies through half the system before going back to New Berlin, where he cruises from one side of the system to the other, hugging the sun as close as he can. All the while, he flies near Battleships trying to scrape me off. I finally send out the white flag, and move back to Sigma 13. However, it was a ruse, and he bit. Knowing his trade route, I interdicted the trade lane and the chase began anew. It ended, an hour after it began, with me retreating, out of Countermeasures and getting very irritated.
He kept boasting how he has never been caught; I'd like to see him beat until he begs to pay, then beaten some more.
If we do this this way the biggest faction ship your gonna see is a gunboat. With freelancers flying through the galaxy on battleships. Even getting the 3 VHFs you would need to kill it, getting them all after that BS would take awhile. This would take factions from being powerful organizations to weak groups killable by Freelancer. This sounds like a good idea, but if we put it into effect there will be alot of unhappy players out there.
Only way to keep factions strong is to stop freelancers from using capships. And I think I already said what would happen then. IF we can find a way to do this that keep everyone interested, balanced, and doesn't require tons of people just to get a BS on, then it would be good. But I don't think thats going to happen.
Korrd, ruin -what- job for mercs? I havn't seen a lot of hireing going on lately (Or ever, for that matter). Besides, there will always be a need for mercs. The Advanced Wingman thing may add a wing of fighters to you, but they only stick around in certain systems. For example, if one of my RM characters had that wingman ticket, and left Rheinland space, he wouldn't get a wing anymore. That, and PCs will always be better then NPCs.
As for the ship/faction structure, this seems to be a case of "Well, it looked good on paper."
Yeah? So did Communism.
Now, i'm all for something -like- this, but perhaps not in the same way you have it stated.

It would make large battles very interesting and cool. It would allow the defender the advantage it should have as it is their home turf. They get the NPC wingmans while the attackers do not. Unless it is something where both sides have a base that their NPC alignment has there.

As in all of that house's systems with one ticket, travelling back and forth through gates? Or the commodity only works for the system you're in when you buy it, but can be bought again in all of that house's systems? I guess these are questions that should be directed towards that mod rather than here, but I was just wondering if you knew.
What would be good is if the commodity allowed you to keep the escort wherever you go, but for a set time limit like perishable cargos, then their contract expires and they just fly off, or a much more expensive ticket that allowed you to keep them as long as you could keep them alive. I agree, large battles with hired NPC guns on each side would be amazing!
Back on topic, I guess the only realistic way to keep a nice balance of ship types (especially once GBs/CRs/BSs get the upgrades they need) would be massive price hikes, or maybe cut back profits on the more lucrative trade runs, making it a lot more work, possibly even a necessary team effort to earn a BS.
I agree Badger, there is way too much money floating around on the server. When people run 3 super trains at a time and such, they have an advantage that people with only one pc or ability or know how of how to get three to work like that. so even the price hike sounds good, but has its loopholes.
Maxwell.Smart - Blood Dragon, by choice and imprisonment.
The thing is, even a price hike or profit reduction wouldn't stop them. People with two or three Super Trains will get more money then anyone else. And the only way to stop them would be to take out all of the larger transports. And even then, it wouldn't stop them. They'll still get more, because they simply have three times as many money-making ships as other people.
As for the escorts, you would get the wing when you entered the system that ticket was for. Say, you have a Liberty Navy Escort Ticket. You would get a wing of Liberty Navy fighters when you launched from a planet/station in Liberty or entered a Liberty system. They would follow you untill you went to another system. After that, if you were still in a Liberty system, you would get a new wing. If you wern't, no wing would show up.
At least, that's how I think it works. I'll search for it and give a link to the actual site in a bit.
