Hello all.
I am a returning player and I am having some issues connecting. I have installed the game + all necessary updates. Game starts without any problems, but I cannot see the server in the list. Due to my current work location the internet speed is horrible, (max 100kb/s) and I am wondering if that could be the cause? I even tried manually connecting to the server via the fldirectip file, but to no avail. Does anybody have a clue about this issue?
I want to bring you some update on the issue as it may be helpful to other people in my predicament (although I am pretty sure I am the only one on the planet).
So as I was saying, currently I work (and live) on an actual ship and we just switched to a new internet provider. Now for those who don't know internet on ships is beyond horrible, but this one is a little bit better, reaching speeds of about 100 kb/s. Today I had the opportunity to switch to shore mobile phone G4 internet provider and the game runs flawlessly. When we get back to sea however, I have to switch to the other one, which is called "Infinity" and is working via the VSAT system. Now Infinity has a monopoly over the ocean-wide internet services, but connectivity is tricky and I have little knowledge of how it could be interfering with mine to Disco.
So basically that narrows down the problem to two plausible causes:
1) The internet provider is blocking or has disabled some connectivity features (which most likely I won't be able to access)
2) 100 kb/s is just not enough speed
I would love to see any additional opinions on this matter, especially if there are any fellow sailors around.
The VSAT system might have a closed port (:2302), which in turn doesn't let you connect to the server.
I suggest you try to contact the VSAT ISP and ask about ports and such, or alternatively if you could access your local router you could perhaps open a port up there.
