As i stated before, If properly implemented it would ruin the fun of Freelancer(Thus no point playing). Roleplay is not designed to being Real Life to a Game, its designed to allow you to imerse youself into a imaginary world without all the annoyances/hassles of real life like running out of fuel. People play Freelancer, like any other game for fun, not so we have to check to see if we have enough fuel every time we take of just so we can play the game.

1. You know what, a Traders life is one of Trading, thats it. Traders Trade supprisingly, they don't do anything else, they just Trade.
2. If by events you mean what pirates can do in freelancer then there limited by the game and RP of a pirate.
3. Freelancer doesn't have the ability to show who is winning a war.



One thing to note, even if this idea was implemented, it WOULDN'T get players tradeing fuel between each other as they would just buy it on a station.

I docked on LD-14 today with my explorer, I took a look at what was available and found MOX or something. It said that it was a kind of fuel used in nuclear fusion. It was also Perishable. Maybe it could be the Fuel we're looking for... The bad thing is that it's not sold at many stations.

I voted yes. I don't mind refueling as long as its every couple of hours and not every 10 minutes.

Traders are unwilling:( to operate purely for the reason of RP.
:)Ive tried a few times to haul goods for RP rather than profit;
:angry:I just ended up being pirated for 2m whilst hauling Toxic Waste or Water.
:PThe server is too unbalanced towards pirates and piracy.

Avg hour of players are 2-4 hours in one sitting.


I last night got lost and unknowing it i mistakenly jumped into guard system. Spent 3 hours fighting NPCs after my ships is torn apart lost 4 guns CM CD and my wing I realized I couldn't leave the system...because the guard system has defense units at the jump. And I had no bat/nanos.

I thought to myself now if Fighter Fuel Lasted for 4 hours at a time I have an hour to get out of here...and find a friendly base. Which for some reason make things all the more exciting. I made it in do time. But suffered losing one of my codes....which...I now need to buy 5 more guns

So theres no enjoyment in desperation? To me having the odds against me is fun. If we consolidate the avg. time played with the amount of decay I think i will be just fine.

Your example is a bad one as having fuel run out in under a hour when you can't get out of the system anyway isn't going to add anything to it as you are dead eather way.

It wouldn't add any excitement because you are running low on fuel, it would just piss people off because they were say winning a fight and just because they forgot to check there fuel levels before hand they die to a weaker foe(Which ruins the fun).

All it would do is force people to check there fuel 24/7 to make sure they have enough and do nothing for RP. Players wouldn't trade fuel with other players as if it was done realisticaly fuel would be on EVERY base for purchase. So all this would do is annoy people.

There is a reason that all space sims don't have refueling because it doesn't make a game any funner it just forces people to repetitivly do something which would just waste time they could be spending having fun (Over time it would amount to alot).

It would also annoy new people who join the server(OMG!!! Why has my engine cut out.... This mod Sucks!!!, etc), meaning that there would be less people playing on the server. Without new blood servers die.

I agree with most of your points paticularly the one about fuel being on every base. If we're going to add in realistic fuel we might as well make it fully realistic. All stations/planets would sell fuel to make sure pilots that landed there weren't stranded kind of like how all stations can repair ships. I also heavily agree with the last point. It would make new players who didn't know about it frustrated and likely to leave the first time they run out.

I will repeat myself. Carry H-fuel/Deuterium/Fuel Oil/Gas turbines/Whatever.. if that makes you feel better. The enforcement of it won't happen. Lane Hackers are obliged to have a unit of Cardamine and a Hacker pilot at all times, for example. If you see that as a need of reality, roleplay or whatever you call it, just have it in your hold then. And refuel whenever you see fit. Base your actions and roles according to it. I would also suggest carrying some fair amount of light arms before venturing out into a foray, raid or any kind of ambush/flushing out operation.

--Sorry for the double post, but this is the easiest way I know to quote multiple people lol--

You could simply pretend to use fuel. It would have the same effect, but not force others to conform to your idea of RPing fun. Just carry a bunch of h-fuel around and every once in a while jettison one like people occasionally do with food and stuff. If this idea passes, the next thing that will be suggested will probably having to carry food or else your person would starve or something..... If you open up the box by instituting this idea, you better be ready for the other things that will come out of it too.

My proposal is.

1.) H-Fuel is made perishable

2.) Required for all ship to carry minimal amount of H-fuel (By class of ship)

3.) Different grades of H-Fuel

4.) The rule will be implied when the player hits level 30
WHY? Well I come to find that when someone hits a certain point in credits they seem to lower the RP or not do much when they login. Its the feeling while... i have all this money but nothing to do with it.
I'm just throwing this out there please leave your views after you vote.
