I actually do like the Official Faction structure of Discovery.
However, I have said before is another way people can keep official factions active.
There should be a way that the people of factions should be able to vote their leader out if more than 60% of the membership want leader change.
This would mean, nobody can ultimately tyrant any faction without any effort. Nobody could tell people they'll never step down and they'd rather the faction die.
It would keep Discovery pro-active as leaders wouldn't want to put a foot wrong so they don't get voted out.
Just a theory.

To avoid protecting the toxic members who are friends with OPF leaders and preventing leading into a situation in which one player becomes hounded by OPF just because one of their members dislikes that player.

You can protest against bad leader by leaving the faction. And then creating a new faction.
Yes you could, but then you'll have the issue of the current leader of x faction holding officialdom and you being unable to anything with a secondary faction without power over NPC.
A good leader should be popular with their members, it's not about how much you can take as a leader. It's how much you can give.
I'd vouch for the system. It'd be an epidemic for Discovery cause lazy ass leaders would have to step it up.
Bellck.

That would encourage leaders to only recruit yes-men and kick out dissenters before they make up a majority.

Ironically, that's how tyranny is made, given the bad leader gathers only the people who would vote on him and not allow other people in. I mean, that already was a case more than once in terms of a few factions that emerged on Discovery through years.

Thank you
Official factions have no actual power over NPC factions.
I find it ironic that a player who's made an alt in the last 4 days comes out in obscurity to tell others how to deal with toxic players to prevent obscurity.
If you got an opinion you think needs to be heard, own it. Don't hide behind fake accounts. Or you should consider yourself trolling and toxic for winding up other people with out the ability to put ownership on it.

Thing is, this my only account for the moment. I can neither recover due to closing a few older mails nor remember the name of the account (let alone passwords) I once used as it was almost four years ago since I left.
It's like you asked me on what I ate exactly on this day four years ago - I simply do not remember.
