Before Conn a lot of training was done in the Home or Guard systems, made the players be more inrp because you might always have a visitor, or also is fun when you have to go against a wing with depleted gear. Switches were done mostly faction member to faction member with the help of Treasury ship (always sitting docked or near the mooring point) or for deals you had to mount, go on the long trek and do the deal. It was more fun, yet more salt, but overall forced the players to do something around their respective areas and actually looking each other for a spar or anything. So yeah, in a way, disco can survive without Conn, might even flourish.
Fun outside of conn is better. Fun inside conn is easier. This is because I can always meet someone to PvP with there. Outside of conn I can't because usually conn is the system that's fullest of people who actually want pvp. If conn was removed, fun in the RP universe will be both better and easier.
However, some of our players only play this game because of conn and removing the system would ruin the game for them.
PS: I would love to have realistic military trainings where you train with your own faction and need actual captured enemy ships to understand their weaknesses.

That is indeed so, we used to hang out at our home planets and plan raids, conn didnt stop us then. But for some reason this isnt often the case anymore, i dont know why, but removing Conn could help...

Stop blaming conn for low population. This is not 2011 anymore. We sadly don't have 200 online every evening.
