Jump Trading is bad. Never bring it back. Jump Trading is about making maximum profit whilst avoiding interaction.
Back on topic, I think we should have consumables that can be bought from an NPC base that can be used to quickly jump to a beacon or something. It'd be a great way to quickly get people to move across the horrendous distances in this game so that they can interact. Having a system like this means that we can also add pretty systems into the game for exploration purposes, without impacting travel times.
The more I think about this, the more ideas I have...
Would it be possible through some FLHook trickery to make a jump drive inhibitor, you know just like the Star Wars interdictor cruiser?
Then you could balance jump trading / jump smuggling by giving lawfuls the ability to disrupt jumping simply by patrolling the system (maybe only by a cruiser sized vessel?)
Would be a nifty feature and help spread out law enforcement activity around instead of concentrating it all in a single system (I see them mostly in New York now, where they gank pirates / smugglers in groups).
I don't think it can be done due to the features of the FLHook and Freelancer engine itself. Literally, the JumpDrive is a teleport from point A to point B without route through points A1-A-2-B2-B1 to reach the destination during of which you can interrupt the JD route and get it back to normal space

^ Is information selling handled client or server side? Maybe instead of just a commodity you can make it so you need to first buy the coordinates for the "pretty" systems first (like "treasure maps" in certain other RPG games) ...
Hell, maybe that could be a thing in addition to the player-dependent surveying, so you could for example buy jump coordinates (that don't degrade over time?) to common systems from certain NPCs scattered around various bars through the sector.
