"Having options of faith is a good thing," Doc stated. "Choice for the people is a good thing. I am betting that you will all get plenty of followers."
"Max is correct," he continued, "let us look forward with Pygar. Much on it has to be discussed which includes things like improving the planet itself, medical care, defense of the planet and how to keep on good terms with neighbors for a peaceful future are but a few."
He sipped his water, "I, for one, look forward to working with you all. I do have my concerns but they will be discussed in due time."
Sun calmly listens to all the proceedings, occasionally drinking some water she raises a hand to speak "From my experience in Theta, it is one of the more peaceful areas for us Zoners, Corsairs have been generous neighbours but I have recently been concerned about our rules, they are much out of date. I am not listed as a Administrator on these rules, which causes quite the confusion in dealing with people. I believe in looking at the old rules and, perhaps redoing them for our modern times." She says with a smile.
Bob let out an audible groan as he listened to all the talking going on, it was good to get accustomed to one and other of course but debating religion and history lessons was hardly the point of this gathering.
"Rules, smules!" he said, lifting his feet from the table and sitting upright, slamming his fist into it in the process in his usual bombastic way. "We should be discussin' how we're gonna keep Pygar safe, not debatin' our code of conduct, which I should add, most dunnae even seem to know exists!"
With a sigh Bob seemed to relax somewhat as he said: "Look, ya can call me Bulldog, some o' ye already know me, others may o' heard of me and to others I'm an unknown, big freakin' whoop. I run Livadia shipyard for Velvet and I'm damn good at it to. Me and me lads are constantly expandin' the fleet, makin' improvements and making sure there's plenty of our fearosome battleships available to everyone; the dreaded whale."
The distractingly pink sock puppet on Bulldogs right hand moved towards his ear and seemed to mutter something.
Bulldog, in full disbelief turned his gaze at the puppet before saying: "A transport? The whale? Ye well we'll see about tha' when I'm done with it." before shaking his head and turning to the rest of the gathering. "The point is tha' we need some sort of plan, something to keep the houses off our backs or they'll all walk over us sooner or later like Bretonia has done. So what are our options on that front eh?"
Another day passes for Raul being staying at Conference, listening, and absorbing information. Keeping some eye from time to time on women among the party. Jill Xi, the medical chief... oh Raul would not mind having medical examination one day, and the monk Sun Koken is looking exotic and friendly too. He wonders if she knows some cool hand-combat skills in some monk style. Pondering at that, he listens to words around.
loss of Gran Canaria which was paradise? It quite reminds of another planet Raul has close tie with. Planet Erie has a fate which is not dissimilar to Gran Canaria, only it was taken by Liberty Government instead of Bretonian. Some parties would always wish to strike targets they can. What could change it though? Perhaps technological advancement with some solution that would make attacks impossible, and granting great defense in exchange for something for a solar object? What could be sacrificed? Hard problem to solve considering the size of the planet.
Perhaps some other solution could be sought... what thing could make the entire planet useless for big government, to leave it only in hands of zoners? Some sort of virus, genetic mutation? Raul does not know yet, but he could try to look for some solution in his field. Or perhaps just too look for ideas across all available sources, there should be smth, he's sure. The medical team is thankfully around as well, they would be a huge changing factor if they would help. Genetic fields are limitless in possibilities and could cover a great area like the planet with less cost. What would be the price for it though? Energy source, human look, or something else?
Paperwork never ends. Leaving for the conference is not a reason to abandon his duties. When there's time to sort through outgoing paperwork, Raul receives the pleasant notification of gathered resources to run their mainframe for hyper calculations. Sadly with good news, some bad news as well, as economic situation destabilized itself again, putting all plans regarding relocations on hold. Perhaps another time then. What we have done to prepare the base for it, makes us ready to perform better in our duties anyway. Win, win situation in every outcome. A massive upgrade is in order then being continued at the current location to make the base able to perform the duty it was planned for in the first place.
Sifting through last coming mail, Raul comes across to a message addressed To: Confederation of Freeports; Freeport 1 Administration; OSI; All Zoner entities. Reading through the content, makes him frowning, with each word his eyebrows keep moving closer together. As he finished, he tries to bring attention to the message. "Gentlemen and ladies. I think I bear some not good news for you. It looks like another 'accident' happened within the proximity of one of Freeports. I would advise checking terminals for the next link I'm sharing it in a local network under allies 'lastmail' for a quick access to find"
Mad John Rackham, sporting the latest, centuries old Discordian Robes, flecked with black and gold, slid into the room and carefully sidled across to his old friend Doc Holliday, giving him a small tap on the shoulder.
"Hey Doc, sorry I missed the start of yer party, I've been taking a long Sabbatical on Puerto Bonito and only just got yer invite. Long time old friend. I feel fer yer loss on Gran Canaria, the TAZ will help in any way we can. We're here to listen."
while the people talk about this and that, waldemar remain in his seat. he looks like inbetween a deep meditation and the sleep of a drunken man. with his eyes closed he watched every movement, every gesture of that phoenix delegate. he even recocnised the the short nod christian gave to beacon guy.
somethin has to be changed!
he jumps up, headed to the bar, grab two vodka, turns and walks straight to christian.
kallisti, we havent had the pleasure. waldemar vorderkeerke, from da popes in baffin. heard eris has thrown tons of rotten flax upon your society. not that ya deserve such a thread. but, past is past and we are here for the future.
with a short move of his right arm he empties the first vodka and laid his right hand onto christians shoulder.
lets have a drink.
while he guides christian to the bar he drunk the second vodka and goes on
well, in short, lets make peace. baffin and its installations, except pueblo bonito are open to yours. in return you allow us to dock and trade at your stations. from now on. deal?
Skarsi turned in his chair at the new arrival and saw it was his old friend, Mad John Rackham returned from sabbatical as well. "Mad John Rackham, you old discordant cabbage. Welcome back!." He got up and grabbed his old friend in a bear hug before bringing him back to the TAZ delegation spot.
Christian attempted attentively to listen to the people surrounding him, but again drowsing thoughts absorbed him, the path from Omicron Sigma wasn’t close, nor his ship comfortable for long travels. He suddenly noticed a nod from Waldemar. As he came closer for a greeting, Christian greeted back “It's nice to meet you, my name is Christian Burton, as you may know… Yeah, indeed our relationship sometimes had been problematic even from Zoner Trading Consortium times…” As Christian stood up and headed to the bar with Waldemar, he felt a dry throat, perhaps something beside the water could change that. As Waldemar suggested for a drink, he smiled and nodded, he rarely drinks alcohol due to constant high load of community tasks, but it doesn’t mean that he don’t like it. As they reached the bar desk Christian answered Waldemar “To be honest, I don’t want the cause of our misunderstandings, nor do I want to attempt to remember them. Its the past, lets move on for a brighter future.” Christian took a bottle of vodka and poured vodka to the rim of two shooter glasses and spilled vodka a bit. Then he took his glass and stood this up, smiled and said "I glad that are both groups would like to get over the past. So lets get this done, write a new, better story of our relationships" and drank vodka. Christian felt warmer and relaxed for now. He tried to find something to fed the vodka as throat had burnt, but ignored the urge. “By the way, I had been sent a transmission in regard to our new home, I’ll attach that frequency on your datapad. We will be happy to host our TAZ guests there anytime.”
Voncloud crossed his arms as the conference continued, though seemed to be quickly off track in different directions depending on who you asked.
His arm lifted from the other, so he could rest his chin and ponder, muting the buzz of everyone out for the moment before looking up and clearing his throat
"Gentleman, ladies and all others present. It's Clear that if Pygar and avoiding the fate of Gran Canaria is the focal point of this meeting, then it is obvious to me what it is we must do" His arm returns to its crossed position as he slowly paces across the floor "We must play to our relative strengths, not just as individual entities but also as Zoners. It would do us ill to consider only the one option, or one angle if you will. No one solution will be enough, nor should it be, we must ensure we attack this problem using what resources we have in every area. "
Once he reaches the other end of the room he turns to face those who were gathered. "This is what I propose, and in my opinion the best course of action in regard to Pygar.
When it comes to its defense physically in space, this will be handled by Velvet with my Black Kite Squadron taking the lead, but I would ask that each group with any vested interest in Pygar lend some sort of combat asset, whether it's a squadron of fighters or a capital ship. Velvet cannot take on something like a house military on its own.
When it comes to the surface, Pygar already has one hell of a defensive advantage in the shape of its cave networks. They are narrow, twisty and easy to get lost in. If we can exploit that then it gives us another string to our defensive bow" He turns his head towards Martin "I believe you said you had some projects for defense purposes, id be interested in hearing those and what idea's you may have."
HIs arm returns up to head, resting his chin upon his fist "But this is only one of the aforementioned angles. Another we must consider should we strengthen Pygar is our diplomacy and relations with those who inhabit the Omicrons. There are many out here who would rather not see Government or house flags suddenly flying above locations throughout this region of space. It's my belief that for us to secure Pygar we NEED to make sure we have the other locals on side. The Corsairs to name a good example were a significant force against the occupation of Gran Canaria.
The Core and Order would be loath to give up any space to house forces that could be used to spearhead a campaign against either of them. There are a few here who i feel would be perfect to lead diplomatic relations with any one of these groups, I would not recommend we leave it all to just the one person however. We need diplomacy to be on multiple fronts just as much as we do our physical defenses.
He looks around the room "These are my thought's having been holding Vigil over Pygar as to what it needs in regard to its defense"
Rackham listened carefully to Voncloud's speech and mused on the possibilities.....
Standing up and waving a freshly lit cigar to get attention...."I think Voncloud's words sum up the situation very succinctly. There needs to be a physical defence and possibly an aggressive stance.
The TAZ are not directly involved in this situation, of course, but believe me, when I say that we know the outcome will affect us dramatically, even as far away as Baffin. So please don't think of me as intruding into this conference, the TAZ has a keen interest. and we have many contacts in the vicinity through which we can provide to resolve the problem. I would be more than happy to help with any diplomatic effort."
