Smuggling, piracy, insurgency, terrorism. All among the most prevalent and disastrous crimes affecting the Republic of Liberty and its people; all matters that the Liberty's law enforcement were meant to persecute and subdue. However, investment cuts and ever increasing corruption among LPI’s employees along with the Navy's increased responsibilities in the borders led to criminality and dissent rapidly growing out of control throughout the house’s territory.
In an effort to stem the crisis, the Department of Justice reactivated the Marshals Service, more commonly known as the Liberty Marshals, for the third time. The Marshals are a law enforcement agency of long bygone days before the privatization of Liberty’s police, currently based on Planet Denver, Colorado system.
Leaving the more stealthy side of intelligence to the other branches of the Liberty Security Force, the Liberty Marshals prefer to make their presence known within Liberty space, providing assistance for the rest of the Libertonian law enforcement where it's due. The reformed Marshals Service is young, understaffed, and underfunded, but eager to prove itself both to Liberty and its criminal underworld.
Under the emergency powers act the President, alongside the intelligence committee authorized the third iteration of the Marshals service's creation shortly after the failure of the second attempt which was championed by congress.
The Marshals are intended to act as a Enforcement and Intelligence arm of the Liberty Government and deal with any cases where there inclusion is in the national interest. The Marshals are intended to work alongside the currently active Intelligence branches of the Liberty Security Force but will in general handle more internal matters.
As the Marshals service has been established through emergency powers there is currently no official budget available to them apart from the discretionary budget available to the intelligence committee. As such they generally fly retrofitted civilian ships and ex military craft. Officers of the Marshals service are generally well trained being either retrained LPI or Naval officers. The Marshals are intended to be the public face of the Liberty Intelligence community freeing up their sister agency's resources to deal with larger matters.
The Liberty Marshals currently answer to the Department of Justice which is a branch under the purview of the Secretary of Defense and answerable to the Intelligence committee.
Justice, integrity, service. These are the hallowed words emblazoned upon each marshal’s badge. They reflect not only the mindset of each member of the Service, but also their duties. Due to the small number of Marshals being in service, they are trained to work alone for long periods of time. As such the Marshals are regularly drilled in their combat skills.
While the renewed Marshals Service currently operates as an intelligence agency with a focus towards law enforcement, it's duties cover multiple fields and can be categorized as primary and secondary ones.
Primary duties:
Counter-terrorism
Handling of matters escalated to them from other agencies (LPI, LN, LSF)
Execution of federal warrants
Transportation of high value prisoners
Espionage against Liberty's Enemies
Secondary duties:
Enforcement of the law throughout liberty's territory
Safeguarding of civilian shipping lanes
Protection of property
Assisting LPI assets on an as needed basis with their regular duties.
The Marshals are not permitted to enter the following areas:
Virginia (outside of the path to the supergate)
Alaska (without written countersigned permission of an authorizing party, Admiral of the Navy, LSF director)
Due to the currently underfunded nature of the Marshals Service, access to Liberty military-grade technology is limited. Marshals regularly make use of civilian weaponry and ships, particularly those produced by CTE, preferring their lower maintenance costs and rugged reliability. Commonly employed ships and equipment are listed below.
Snubcraft:
CTE-750AE Civilian Starflier
Regularly used for undercover operations and interceptions, the Starflier is a cheap vessel. Though its performance statistics can't match the Patriot the Marshals use the Starflier as a lower cost alternative. This is the ship a probationary marshal will be provided with upon starting their service, though they can upgrade the craft should they wish to do so.
LZF-6364 "Patriot" Liberty Light Fighter
The Liberator is the most optimal vessel to be used for interdiction as well as scouting, delivering state-of-the-art maneuverability and speed. With lackluster firepower and less-than-optimal armor however it is a risky vessel to enter combat with.
ZC-60V "Jackdaw" Civilian Heavy Fighter
The Jackdaw remains an option for the marshals due to it's incredibly low upkeep and repair costs, with spare parts being very easily available. It does the job well enough and for that it has it's place in the hands of the Marshals Service.
BDR-337 "Executioner" Liberty Heavy Fighter
The Executioner is the step between the Liberator and the Defender. It features tougher armor and a more wide array of weapons while keeping maneuverability and speed relatively high compared to other snubcraft. The Executioner is perfect for light escorting, interdicting and combat.
CTE-6000 "Eagle" Civilian Very Heavy Fighter
Another favorite among the marshals, the Eagle serves as a lower-cost alternative to the more expensive Defender, featuring similar specifications.
CTE-24000 "Vulture" Fighter-Bomber
The marshals are expected to be able to deal with any situation thrown at them. The Vulture is a Fighter-Bomber that exceeds in that by fusing the Roc's heavy payload and the Eagle's space superiority capabilities. Needless to say, the Vulture is a very famous choice among the marshals.
CTE-19000 "Roc" Civilian Bomber
The Roc is a light bomber with increased maneuverability compared to its rivals. However, what it gains in maneuverability it loses in firepower and is therefore considered to be effective against larger vessels only when used in numbers. In the hands of a capable pilot, the Roc can hold its own against fighters thanks to its similar size and agility.
XB-2 "Havoc Mk II" Civilian Bomber
The Havoc Mk II is a medium bomber with with average armor, maneuverability, and firepower. Its improved survivability over the Roc makes it a popular choice among marshals.
WAR-4b "Waran" Civilian Bomber
The Waran is the heaviest bomber available to the Marshals, featuring a wide array of deadly weapons along with heavy armor plating at the cost of speed and maneuverability. It is an excellent vessel to take on capital ships.
Capital Ships:
Liberty "Defiant"-class Gunboat
The Defiant-class gunboat is only employed by the Marshals Service in situations where use of smaller craft is untenable. Gunboats can only be deployed under the authorization of a Supervisory Liberty Marshal (or higher ranking marshal) and justification must be provided to the director's office in the form of a full after-action report. Due to their high upkeep cost, only a handful of Defiants have found their way into the Marshals' service.
L-584-B "Oasis"-class Passenger Liner
The Oasis-class liner is employed by the Marshals for prisoner transportation and will be seen escorted by at least two other vessels. Due to the high upkeep cost of the Liner, there is currently only one serving in the Liberty Marshals.

After 7 months of what was a fun little attempt at creating a Liberty Police faction with a background different to the corruption background that the LPI has had over the past many years, it was about time the Marshals disbanded. It was a fun ride, thank you to those who joined and ended up staying 'till the very end and thank you to those who joined and left along the way.
And 'see you' we did indeed, Freeport 7, the time period was just a tad bit longer than 2 weeks.
I proudly announce that the Liberty Marshals Service is back in action, under a slightly different identity this time. All of the threads you see linked above and below on the signature have been updated to be brought up-to-date with today's version of the Liberty Marshals Service.
Needless to say, we are recruiting and will be overly happy to see the peoples' interest in the faction. Feedback regarding the faction and it's return should be pointed to the Feedback thread as always.
