Don't think many remember me (it has been over a decade since I played much), but hey, it's Orin again. Took a trip down memory lane the other day, more than a cursory glance, and took a look at the community and the roleplay and my cringy old writing, just got to thinking about giving it all another shot maybe.
It's a weird thing, looking back at, stuff that kind of influenced the person you became, or the aspects of yourself that you made a point to leave behind, I don't know. But all the same, it's nice to look back on too, and a part of me does feel like the game and the unique platform it is for roleplay are worth taking a stab at again as an adult (despite this awful, teenage me jokes of an avatar and signature, haha).
So I guess I'm just sort of curious how worthwhile it is these days, in all brutal honesty? Obviously with niche communities like this, optimism and encouraging words are important, but there's also nothing wrong with being honest for better or worse.
How dead is it in general, outside of events and that sort of thing? I've never been great with heavily scheduled, group oriented stuff (outside of general unscheduled faction activity), and while I like the gameplay, big scheduled brawls aren't really at the top of my list to come back for. I do like a bit of everything, but just coming up with some fun characters, having some casual roleplay and faction stuff to have some company and applet to play a character, and action here and there is good enough for me.
I've wound on long enough, but yeah, hello people.

Greetings,
I bet that the main difference from previous years is (at least form my 2 year experience, that is), that lawfuls are in a spot of bother activity-wise, while certain unlawful and quasi-unlawful groups are having a generally good time and enjoy some flexibility.
Gallic lawfuls are the most active now in the game, if you want some chill farming in battlezones you can go to Lorraine (battlezones are NPCs fighting each other you can shoot)
For casual roleplay ugh - pirate corps nicely, I won't say which ones though out of respect

That is amusing. In my day, pirates (Outcasts and Corsairs, especially) didn't have too bad of activity issues, but generally the overwhelming imbalance of players was on the lawful side, especially when it came to Liberty. I will certainly keep that in mind.

Huh, yeah I never had much involvement with Gallic stuff (the Reunion update was close to when I drifted off). I'll probably consider making a character with not so many strings attached (shady neutral merc or something, I dunno) to get a feel for the sector now that it's been so long since I've played.
More pirates than anything, huh?

I think there's still a bit of everything, although pews might be a bit lobsided. RP still exists, and there are definitely some quality RPers left, but sometimes you will feel like that people that pass by may not care to talk, lotta powertraders left still. Who /sometimes/ unfortunately instill the doctrine of avoiding players for pure safety.
All in all, yeah, you can still absolutely do casual RP and have pews. Sometimes you can find people to talk to, sometimes you cant. Each day is different, it may feel like theres nothing to do. Most factions do have a lot of RP to do in general, but understandable if you don't want the burden of an OFL.
