Entry From:Kasumi Ito Vessel:Katakiuchi Location at time of Log Entry:Open space, Orkney Subject:Moving
It would seem that the Nomads are starting to take notice of our work in Omicron Delta.
The Katakiuchi has took extreme damage in a mission we ran the other night. We bit off a little more than we could chew going up against Nomads when a cruiser poked it's head out of a nearby nebulae cloud and decided it was going to use us as target practice. We narrowly were able to escape from the ship but suffered serious damage in doing so. Needless to say the damage we suffered was extreme.
With the Defiance currently planned to be going under an extensive retrofit in the coming days or weeks and the Eventide requiring almost daily maintenance to keep up with the tempo it's been running at, the coffers are already dry. We barely had enough to repair the damages and we even lost more subsystems that were crucial to our operations including the Power Plant running at 50% of maximum power.
In other news, our..."contact" has informed us that activity is spiking in one of the independent systems near Gallia. As a result of that, Zylar has asked me to head out to an "Orkney" system to keep a discerning eye on things there and to aid the Order or these "Delta-4" individuals if we happen to run into them, who ever they are. Possibly more Order folks? He wasn't quite clear on that point. At any rate, we've moved to Orkney and are standing by to assist any allies we run into out here. I'd be remiss if I didn't say that I missed Delta. I've been out there with Zylar since the collapse of the ZDF and it kind of became like home for me. Hopefully in a few weeks I can get back there--but for now we go where we're needed...and right now the amount of activity in Orkney as reported from our source indicates that we're needed here to combat the Nomad threat. With a lack of places to moor to repair, this will prove to be a difficult mission.
Entry From:Kasumi Ito Vessel:Katakiuchi Location at time of Log Entry:Freeport 11, Omicron Delta Subject:Curiosities
Undocked from Freeport 11 and stumbled right into the face of a Nomad battleship this evening. Was a bit jarring. Came upon it as another Zoner with the IFF of "Stormhawk" was preparing to fight the big thing along with an AI using the IFF of Phi-34. We got into the tussle and nearly died for our efforts. The Katakiuchi just isn't built for taking on ships that large without taking heavy damage. We quickly put some distance between us and the oversized squid and started hitting him from a distance instead of slugging it out within meters of it's hull. Stormhawk was able to do some extreme damage to the squid before it ran away speaking some very weird things for a Nomad. Some of it was almost legible English.
We moored for repairs at Freeport 11 and had some discussions with the Captain of the Stormhawk, JJ, before an Auxo showed up. I've read some of the reports you've submitted, Zylar, and I treated them with caution. Though from their discussions with us, they seemed to indicate a few things.
They insisted on the fact that we're wasting our time and shouldn't even bother with taking the Nomads on face to face. They seemed more like they wanted us to stop fighting the Nomads rather than trying to convince us it was a wasted game. At points they even suggested that Humanity was the true threat.
They indicated that there was more going on with Kepler than we originally realized, even suggesting that any prying or investigating could lead to Shikoku or Colorado coming under threat. Considering the reports on them you sent me, that felt like more of a veiled threat than a simple statement.
They mentioned Freeport 3. From our records, there wasn't any indication or records of a Freeport 3. They then stated that Freeport 3 might be Ames...and that no one knows what happened to it. More hints about Kepler.
They mentioned a lot about the Order. Mostly saying they've done horrible things in the name of their beliefs. They said other things about the other inhabitants of the Omicrons, but tunneled on the Order most of all after I mentioned we are allies of them. They seemed to want to convince us that they weren't to be trusted as allies and should be considered as a rogue faction existing in the Omicrons.
My suggestions are to forward the conversation I attached up to the Order for their review to see what they can make of it. I don't want to step on Jack's toes where Intel is concerned, but this might be something they'd be interested in.
As always, we're keeping our vigil over Omicron Delta and monitoring things here despite what the Auxo said. We will continue to fight the Nomads until we only have our teeth left to fight with...so is the task and duty of Elysium's Shield.

[10.07.2022 07:13:07] A/)-AXI-B-9192: As for the wreckage, do you refer to a star sector that is on the edge of - er - the edgeworlds?
[10.07.2022 07:13:15] Stormhawk: JJ: we go wherever there may be a possible nomad threat
[10.07.2022 07:13:31] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Provoking them will only endanger more lives, you need to act with care.
[10.07.2022 07:13:38] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: Zylar wasn't able to pinpoint their location after the emergency jump. They investigated but found no evidence.
[10.07.2022 07:13:39] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Colorado nor Shikoku is prepared for that type of threat.
[10.07.2022 07:14:26] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Ah - years ago - an unstable rift did breach into the Omicron Delta system, a passage into a star sector filled with
[10.07.2022 07:14:27] Stormhawk: JJ: that does sound indeed suspicious
[10.07.2022 07:14:30] A/)-AXI-B-9192: wreckages and anomalous activity.
[10.07.2022 07:14:43] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Of course, prospectors saw the rift as opportunity for mining.
[10.07.2022 07:14:53] A/)-AXI-B-9192: It lured the Nomads in and eventually the anomaly collapsed.
[10.07.2022 07:15:04] A/)-AXI-B-9192: I do not recall the ore they tried to harvest there.

[10.07.2022 07:16:07] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: Ugh. Core.
[10.07.2022 07:16:24] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Yes, the war mongers... None in the Omicrons tolerate them.
[10.07.2022 07:16:40] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Though I cannot say as to why the Outcasts would barter any deals with them. Very peculiar combat agreement.
[10.07.2022 07:16:42] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: We Zoners aren't fans of them either.
[10.07.2022 07:16:49] A/)-AXI-B-9192: They /are/ imperialists, you shouldn't be.
[10.07.2022 07:17:00] A/)-AXI-B-9192: I would be concerned about those who tolerate them.
[10.07.2022 07:17:45] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: We're suspicious of many people in this region of space. Often times it's less suspicion and more a survival tactic.
[10.07.2022 07:17:58] A/)-AXI-B-9192: We have referred to the Omicrons as the jungle for a reason.
[10.07.2022 07:18:03] Stormhawk: JJ: it is good to keep alert out here for sure
[10.07.2022 07:18:13] A/)-AXI-B-9192: The mad lands accepts no compromise.
[10.07.2022 07:18:47] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: As Zylar might say, "All that matters is who has a bigger stick."
[10.07.2022 07:18:59] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Corsairs - naturally aggressive due to their generational genetic abnormalites and malnuitrition, Outcasts - who wish to

[10.07.2022 07:19:33] A/)-AXI-B-9192: There was even a rise of deviant drones interestingly. I wonder if they were related to the Outcast incursion lately seen.
[10.07.2022 07:19:41] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: Mmm...the Order has been our stalwart allies in this part of space. I see no reason to consider them suspicious.
[10.07.2022 07:20:00] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Ask the Baffin Zoners, they will give a very point of view. They were genocided over "infection suspicions"

[10.07.2022 07:21:04] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Not all of them were fanatics. Some simply lived near the Taus.
[10.07.2022 07:21:18] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Regardless, they were civilians - harmless.
[10.07.2022 07:21:34] A/)-AXI-B-9192: Unless you are implicating they deserved to die because they had a different culture...?
[10.07.2022 07:22:09] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: Regardless of our views there is one view that is absolute for us. The Nomads are a threat, and they will be eliminated
[10.07.2022 07:22:16] Katakiuchi: Kasumi: All else is secondary.

Entry From:Zylar Vespertine Vessel:Eventide Location at time of Log Entry:[CLASSIFIED] Subject:Through the Fire
It's been a really tough month. As such, we haven't had much time to annotate any logs down as we have before.
The war of attrition against the Nomads continues unabated. For every hundred we kill, another thousand remain ready to attack. They are endless. However, with all that being said, we will not give up hope or stop our war against the squids. To do so would betray humanity itself and we will not do that.
The Eventide and Katakiuchi have both taken serious damage over the past few weeks and are currently under repairs at a make shift drydock we've constructed in the [CLASSIFIED] system. We expect to be back underway within a few days.
The Defiance is expected to get underway to the [CLASSIFIED] system in the coming days. Probably a week or so now until it's superstructure is shored up enough to make the jumps required.
Nothing else to report to the log. I will say Kasumi is antsy to get back out into battle. Glad to hear that...we're ready to fight too.

We've begun the arduous task of delivering the materials required for the Defiance overhaul to [CLASSIFIED] so that the Order can begin the retrofit as soon as we have the ship on-site. The Iridium was easy enough to deliver but the Super Alloys are proving a little more difficult to acquire as they're only sold within House space. I've reached out to a Junker friend of mine to see if he can haul the 20k to a location outside of House space so that we can purchase them from a more neutral location where we will be cleared to dock. Until then we're going to be moving on to other items on the "shopping list".
It's been a long time since I've flown a simple transport (if you can even call a Whale a simple transport with all of it's other systems onboard). It feels nice to move cargo again rather than commanding a warship...it reminds me of the days when I flew that Borderworlds Transport with only murder on my mind. I've come a long way since then.
Going to try to get some rest here on Barrier Gate despite how difficult that might sound. I've always found Barrier Gate to be of a bit of an anarchists paradise. Hopefully I don't hear any explosions while I'm napping.

We had been escorting the Defiance to it's repair location in...I don't even remember where. How so much can go so wrong in such a small amount of time...I'm still not quite sure what happened. The memories are...fragmented.
We were jumped by this...monstrosity. It came out of nowhere and crippled us before we knew what was happening. The Katakiuchi was completely dead in the water. It's engines going into a full shutdown mode without an inkling as to what caused it. The Defiance, captained by Zylar, spun up it's Jump Drive to get the hell out of dodge as fast as it could...though with it's superstructure being in the state it was in, we're not sure if it made it to...where ever it jumped to. He or the ship wasn't at the rendezvous point when we got there...we're assuming the worst.
After the Defiance jumped away...that...thing paused in it's movements, hovering directly in the view of the front screen...just...staring at us. It felt like an eternity until it turned and disappeared as soon as it had appeared. No fan fair, no jump drive, it just...faded away as if it had never been there at all. As soon as it disappeared, our engines came back online, we turned and burned hard for Omicron Delta before running into yet another fleet of those things. We fought our way through them, nearly being destroyed multiple times until we got into Delta and burned hard for Freeport 11 on nothing but one of our three drive coils. We arrived, picked up the Eventide from it's mooring point and left the Omicrons behind. We were attacked multiple times by unknown signatures until we made it to Omega-48 when the attacks stopped.
We don't know if Zylar or the Defiance survived it's emergency jump. One thing is clear: we're getting the hell out of dodge. Something out here is actively hunting us. I'm not one to run, but this is beyond the capabilities of the Katakiuchi and maybe even the Eventide. The best that we can do at this moment is keep our ears on if Zylar resurfaces.
Something out there got sick and tired of our continued mission to remove them from the Omicrons. Whatever it was, it made a point to let us know we're not welcome. Well...message received. I don't know what to do from here...but it's fair to assume that Elysium's Shield died with Zylar. This is Kasumi Ito signing off.
A message for Zylar if he survived and reads this: Sorry boss, it seems that I lack the spine and follow through that you do. When staring into the face of your own death, it puts some things into perspective. Let me know if you survived that jump...if not...then rest in peace.

I never though I would post an update on this system again...but here we are.
I received a very unusual communication from an old ally in one of the deep Omicrons. The title was "Message in a Bottle". Attached is the message I received. I'm not sure if this is a joke or a prank, but it's something that I'm paying close attention to. My worry is that if it's true, then I don't know what shape Zylar might be in...or if he's even Zylar anymore.
It's time to re-arm the Eventide and Katakiuchi and make our way back to Freeport 11 under cloak. If Zylar is alive, I have to find him.
You know I wouldn't send a message to you on this frequency if it wasn't important.
I think I saw the Defiance in a deep Omicron system, one of the uncharted systems. It was being swarmed by Nomads but they weren't attacking the ship. I tried to get a closer look but was attacked before I could get close enough to ascertain whether or not it was actually the ship. I was forced to make an emergency jump to get away. Even though I wasn't able to get close enough, I did receive a message from the ship on a tight band communication before we initiated our jump. So tight, in fact, that I nearly missed it.
It simply read "I know it isn't her."
I don't know what it means, Kas. It was clearly Zylar, but I don't know if he's in his right mind. Seeing the amount of Nomads swarming the ship...it's concerning.
I hope you get him back. I'll keep my ear to the ground out here as we always have.
