plenty of people seem to like the appearance of many of the imports though- the slipstream, raven's claw, raven's talon, etc. are all pretty popular models here.
Freelancer is over 10 years old, and the ship designs do not need to remain blocky forever. I think it's time we start putting better looking ships in, even if they do look a bit radical.
EDIT:
I mean, with the latest texture on this thing - it's got a dark hull, skull&bones symbols, a wicked mouth at the front, and blood splattered all over the forward section of the ship... It'd be a great VHF for the phantoms I think, nice and scary but it still looks very sleek and technologically advanced (they are supported by the C'tan afterall).
Of course, If it does get put in for the phantoms I'll have to demand that my app to the phantoms be approved =P
Radical within reason though, these ships actually look older than the FL styles to me. But I know what you mean, and that takes work and attention. We shouldn't just throw in what looks 'cool' and hope for the best outcome.

I'm not seeing it...
Yea, it feels like the '50s to me, internal combustion rockets headed to the moon to beat the Russians. Freelancer styles are designed around specific cultural themes and a utilitarian design element to link them, but these look too smooth, too "The day the Earth stood still", for me atleast.
It doesn't look new and cutting edge to me at all.
