this is what comes form the times when i played everquest. - back in the days before countless expansions made this game insufferable.

there was one thing that was ..... strangely interesting. - and that was that there were status bars ( like the percentage bar in FL that shows shields and damage ) - but no numbers. you knew that you become better, but you never had any numbers, any written and precise stats.

now, imagine that.... - what if:

- the ID cards showed NO more stats, but only a history and maybe the type ( particle, plasma etc ) - it wouldn t show you that it does 1026 shield hull damage and maybe 598 shield damage. - instead it would just say that its an experimental weapon doing extremely much damage at the cost of terribly much energy.

what i liked in everquest about it is that it left the player in the dark... produced a lot of lore. - players said that a fireball would be better against ice creatures and would do more damage than a firelance or whatever... but no one really knew! - there was very much about believe and imagination.

there were also rumors that faction weapons worked better when wielded by the appropriate faction etc etc - facts that turned out to be false when sony gave the players the stats. - by showing the stats, people started bickering about them - one of the few cases when more knowledge led to more problems.

how would it be if every bit of numberic information was deleted from ID cards - would it be beneficial? - people wouldn t know that a buckshot did x damage and a black widow y damage. - however, a xeno would maybe believe that his weapons was better, while the bounty hunter would think otherwise, no one able to prove it but to belive in it...

But is it too late to go back?

Will we ever be truly innocent again?

Might people consult FL Stat and publish their findings on the forum and spoil it for everyone?

What did I have for lunch?

True story though. If Igiss is willing to see all of his weapon infocards reduced to their base historical components it wouldn't hurt.

Yeah, with FL Stat and code divers and such there would be no mystery. Otherwise, a great idea.

It is kind of sad that there are ways to find the stats, because that is a great idea. The only other downfall I forsee is a lot of leg work by the development team.

I like this idea aswell, but maybe not for all weapons and equipment. I think it would be great if certain things did have "unknown" stats, like special items. Codename guns would be a good example of a weapon to erase the stats on to give them a more of a mythical feeling. That is if they werent in such high use, seemingly being produced by someone, somewhere.

Now if any new ones are ever made then maybe do them this way as no one will know those stats unless they check ini's or flstat. Then anyone who posts those stats on the forum should be stoned to death by the rest of the community and the info deleted.

Maybe even offer some of these "special" items as rewards for good/helpful behavior or prizes for winning an event/race or "rp'er of the month" or something like that, giving them some real worth to those that earn them. It also sets up a "wow" factor for those new folk that scan someone and see one of these items that cant be bought or salvaged anywhere in-game.

*How did you get that ____? I've gotta get me one of those.*

"Well, ive followed the rules, rp'ed correctly, and participated on the forums. Do the same and you might get one some day."

I like both ideas, though if all numeric information is deleted then there is a piece of information that should be added.

"this weapon is designed to penetrate the hull of a ship"

"this weapon is designed to take out shields"

Do it! Thats...brilliant. Just remove all the numbers.
Of course, we'll still have datastorm and such, if we really want the information, but it changes the feel drastically. I'd love it.

It would be great for noobs that dont know about FLDS. Give them a sense of mystery, until they ask someone.
