I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea but should only be put into place on very rare objects and weapons. Nomad equipment, codenameds, maybe the Cheetah thruster, things like that.

All it would mean is that new people wouldn't have any clue what the best weapons are and all the experienced players would know what all the best weapons are. So all the experienced players would just use the best weapons, and the new people would just guess based on the weapon name + level. So it would just give the experienced players more of an edge over new players.

Stucuk, why's that? The stats of many weapons will change next version anyway, if all the balance proposals I keep seeing are acted upon. The new and old players won't be able to know the weapons without datastorm/flstat.

in vanilla, the code weapons had 'there is no more information on this weapon', and you had to try them out to see what was what.

I think its perfectly justified to make a new bunch of codes, without fully detailed infocards.

But if the infocards are deleted from everything, it will just encourage widespread (ab)use of flstat/datastorm

Even if the "old" players are stumped for a little bit, it won't take long before they work out what are the best weapons (Proberly via Datastorm, if one person works out whats best via it, he tells his friend, who passses it on, so on and so forth).

but that would be real lore, wouldn t it? - not some artificial lore we wrote up as a rumor. - information passed on from player to player. - sometimes even false information......

i do not think it separates the veterans from the newbies. ... not more than it is anyway. - remember the "go discover" crap a newbie gets? - thats - well, i can think of more of those when everything was hidden behind the veil of "no information" - however.... total uncertainty could also improve the roleplay.

checking datastorm or other sources is - well... cheating, but its not like cheating to gain a great advantage for oneself.. its cheating oneself.

its a bit like what happens in the big mmorpg. - people that buy equipped and levelled chars via pay pal or whatever. - they cheat themselves, cause it is no great fun to BE a superchar... its the fun to BECOME it. - and for disco, it would mean that it may be no achievment to learn all the stats and numbers behind the scenes from an exel sheet.... but it means that you learn them via ingame experience, communication etc. - thats the real reward. you can TALK about things you have in the game. - you can brag about the power of your weapon... and who would spoil you for it. - the enemy that has no idea how your weaponstats are? ( only the guy that checked datastorm will know exactly ) ...

it would have been interesting not to tell anyone what multipliers on armour upgrades are for that matter. - guess how wild the guesses would have been about the type 7 and 8 armour - that cost 280 or almost 1 billion credits. - knowing that they "only" improve the armour by another 0.5 or 1.0 multiplier to the type 6 armour that costs 40 million - thats boring, isn t it? - but speculating about what a 1 billion upgrade COULD do - without ever knowing.... thats real lore.

I bow to Jinx's superior creative intellect.

I agree. Wholeheartedly.

If this goes into effect it would actually have a bigger consequence in FL than in EQ me thinks. (In EQ, you could download different UIs that would allow to to see the stat value, whereas in FL, you must go to another program entirely every time you want to see the stat.)

If our mission is to improve FL, or at least give it a more RP based feel, then this would be a large step forward. Perhaps line it up with a weapon rebalancing upgrade to a mod and you'll find people scrambling.

"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."

I would even go so far to remove armour information from certain ships (for scanners only) Like the avenger and guardian. As they a military vessels that would have classified loadouts.
