I will be taking the Discovery game server down for a few hours over the coming fortnight.
I will use this time to migrate the game VM to a different host. This new host is a different hypervisor on different hardware, which is better located, which should offer better connection times (e.g. ping) for most of Europe & the Americas, and provides better single core performance, so I'm hoping it'll be able to handle slightly larger groups of players in close proximity better than we've had before.
I'll probably also use it as a convenient opportunity to perform other unrelated maintenance.
I estimate this work will take 3 or so hours and provisionally schedule it in the window of 00:30-06:30 UTC on Saturday 16th.
The web server should still function during this time, so the forums, development tools, wiki, etc. should still work - but obviously the forum integration with the game will be out of action.
If you've restarted your launcher and FL since 22:46 on Monday 11th, there should be no need for you to take any action - when the game server returns it should appear on the server list for you immediately.
In the mean time, if you're curious and want to compare connectivity, the current game IP is 95.217.88.9, and the new game IP will be 88.198.43.188. Those of you with test server access can go and try it today.
I don't really know how this works, but are you sure this won't cause any problems for us who reside in Russia? For us, certain hosts are blocked and can only be accessed via VPN. Remember we had those kinds of issues back in a day.

Well, just by trying to tracert the server, it pass from 20 hops to 17 hops ...
and from 150ms to 140ms ...
Not as much improvement but ... i belive ... it is a 15% of improvement due less hops and maybe 6.666% of better ping?
but 88.XX sounds like Helsinski, Finland or maybe Nyland, Sweden while the new one seems more like Bayern, Germany ...
Fortunately using other software i found is easier to almost half the hops between me and the server if located in Germany than if located somewhere else ...
so ...
I think that will do the trick actually :3
Thanks for the advice @Alex.
but i belive this part ...

Does that mean you will schedule for 3 hours or for 6 hours? both times are mixed up ... so ... could be nicely if clarification on it
Anyways i hope everyone can get better and more stable pings, thank you again @Alex.

We're not magic and we don't have infinite pockets, we can't run an old game like FL 20ms away from the whole world.

I will start at some time after 00:30, and my vague estimate is that it should only take approximately 3 hours. If it's still unavailable after 06:30, you may consider it at that point to be unplanned.
