Zelot, factions like the Zoners, IMG and Junkers seem to have been aggrandized from Vanilla, with everyone assuming they are these giant huge corporation-nation-factions, whereas the FA and such are seen as 'tiny' even though the vanilla difference is like 4 bases compared to 1 or some such.

Yes, but my point is that the Junkers are not meant to be in Kusari by any part of the vanilla or disco story lines, yet I dont have a problem with them trying to move into Kusari, because it follows an rp logic, now mind you, I might not agree with the logic, but it is a logical thing for a group to do. I think Xeno's and FA working together in the border worlds to kill junkers, a mutual enemy, is logical, you may disagree that it's smart or you may think it's not what our characters should be doing, but it is logical, and that should be the judgment of rp that deviates from the npc actions.
Quote:What says the AFA couldnt launch some kind of operation into New York?
I agree. I played a Hogosha some time back and the second highest selling price at the time in the game at the time for synthetic marijuana was Pittsburgh.
It made perfect sense to me--Hogosha smuggle to undercut Junker profits and enter a new market there.
People insisted it was "impossible" but if you read the infocards then, Junkers and Hogosha are in a trade war. The Hogosha want no competition and the Junkers want in their market. Things like the above could and would happen. It would enable spying and planning as well.
Part of the issue also is tags or reps or IDs are taken as "literally" visible when in some cases I think they shouldn't be. I have a Junker tagged [Syndic] who serves as a gallic spy for the King--but he doesn't wear a name tag saying "Gallic spy" and advertise that's what a Syndic is. No one would know. Smugglers dock lawful planets with their ID. Same principle. How many Liberty police would know the difference between a Hogosha and an independent Kusari trader? How reliably could they identify them as a "full-fledged" criminal?

' Wrote:Sorry Rudo, but that stuck in my craw abit, not because of you, or it being said, but I think it highlights an issue. What says the AFA couldnt launch some kind of operation into New York? Well, lets go over the arguments. The first on I expect is that it's outside the AFA's zone of interests, and there are no FA npc's there. Well, the AFA is against the Junkers and Liberty corporations, so they have enemies there, they could dock at Ames so docking is not a problem, so I would say they do have interests there. Nope no NPC's in Liberty, but there are no Junker NPC's in Kusari, yet that doesn't stop the Junkers. Yes it says the Junkers are trying to move into Kusari, it doesn't say they have moved into Kusari, but by the same logic, it says the FA is trying to stop the influence of Liberty cooperation's in Kusari, what better way to hurt those corporations then to attack them where they live?
Now, I am not really suggesting in any way the AFA opening up operations in Liberty, what I am pointing out is that some factions are given lots of leeway in developing their zoi and rp, while others are boxed in, with a thread being made every time someone thinks they have moved even marginally from what their npc's would do. Tinkerbell, you have done some really really unique rp for the Junkers, and have been able to bring your vision to the Junkers. Junkers are not the same as their NPC's and that is thanks to you, and brings spice to the disco universe..... why would you not do everything you can to help other factions have the same opportunity to move their faction beyond just being a mimic of the npcs?
I should have outlined it better and I apologise for that. Nothing at all says the FA or Hogosha can't expand operations into Liberty or Bretonia or anything; Discovery is intended as an expansion of the vanilla universe, and as such should only be limited to the boundaries of common sense and imagination. A few weeks back the Black Dragons brought the Golden Dragon into Liberty -- Junker Congress characters were actually the ones who took the most interest in playing with the casino. A minor chase ensued with the BDS escorts when they made for Kusari but a good time was had by all.
That said, it would be very hypocritical of me to cry out against other factions expanding their operations when I thoroughly encourage Junker 'covert ops' into and throughout Kusari. I was just expressing concern in regards to the way Junker characters are frequently targeted by people wanting little more than a blue message, and how this could create an avenue for these types to buy a FA bomber (which is a freakin' awesome ship and makes me jealous, if you haven't garnered that by my tone while discussing it), load it with Disinfectors and go mow down every identified Junker ship in space regardless of location or roleplay.
The concern actually has nothing to do with you or any of the official factions who we all have the privilege of occasionally exchanging fire with, but rather those who would look at the example you'd create and take the entirely wrong message from it.
In running the Congress, I gained a good deal of experience in what has to be done to create a responsible example; if we purchase an RPC and have it sit on Yanagi, within a week there will be four independent Junker RPCs all doing the same.
I guess that one incident among many others made me hyper-aware of what we do -- I've made a great effort to reinvent the faction and to install proper guidelines to make sure we lose the negative aspects of the reputation our old free-for-all ways garnered us.
To cut my recent habit of rambling short: be imaginative, be free and have fun. Just take it from my bad example and keep it in the boundaries of common sense, or you'll find yourself screaming "No, no! What are you doing?!" at people who take your example and run it outside the boundaries of logic or restraint and cause more rules to be written as a result.

OMG yeah, that was fun. We need to do something like that again soon. I was one of the escorts and it was so much fun trying to keep your ships from getting too near to the Golden Dragon as it was heading back to Kusari without actually shooting at you. Good times.

Was it you that kept mining the tradelanes?
Because if so, good job. I was cursing under my breath trying to keep you in sight to make sure you went back to Kusari and stayed there. :P
Also, when you guys can actually buy your AT we should totally step up the trade war. Our transport got firepower and cargo capacity, you got durability and actually scored a CD. Our numbers and your hardware, fun in the making.

This is a legitimate concern, yes, however, it seems that you have very little faith in the way that AFA does handle misinterpreted RPs. As was done in the past, anyone who does misinterpret our RP and, say, spends all of his time in Bretonia with an FA ID, an FA Bomber, and full Disenfectors, he will be asked nicely to rethink his RP and look on the FA in general or change himself to the appropriate ID, as he isn't quite getting what the FA is. In the case outlined above, the person would be asked to change himself to KNF, as that is what he is acting as. In the case regarding Junkers, a Vigilante ID would be recommended because he isn't quite fulfilling the entirety of FA or Hogosha goals (Since that option would probably come up). That is, though, if the person cannot fix his narrow outlook on the FA's role in Kusari.
Though I know many people think we just blow it up, reading through the Kusari rumors, it's clear that the RP there is quite tangled and complex. It's easy to understand that people can only catch certain aspects of it and fixate themselves on it. It's our job as an official faction to educate them on the entirety of the Kusari RP or help them figure an alternative if they find out that the entirety of the RP isn't quite their thing.
Though, we haven't really encountered many people who really choose the FA to be their pwning faction of choice. I can only recall a pair of them since I've joined the server. Our obscurity really does protect us a great deal...
