I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but would it be possible to have special 'Capital ship' shield batteries and nanobots, with improved shield & hull regeneration. It just seems that the normal shield batts and nanobots don't go so far as to regenerating and restoring a whole battleship hull...
I actually don't think it's possible to have several types of b/b, since the game probably only recognizes one type of them, but then, i didn't think it would've been possible to have armor upgrades either.
My opinion is that you cannot have too much of them on a large ship since most of its space is armor by itself so using them all up in one go does sound normal. same as shield bats..the bigger the shield, the more needed, but the bigger the ship, the less rato you can allow.
Actually, I think B/B improve their regen abilities proportionate to the strength of the hull. That's off the top of my head, but I really do think so...
Also, they would use the exact same type of nanobot to restore the ship hull, in all likelihood, they'd just use a lot more of them. A Nanomachine is a pretty simple construct, once you figure out how to actually make them. It just rearranges molecules.

Well If you have an Osiris with 340k armor your 700 botts will regenerate 125% of it's hull...
But your Rheinland BS will only regen 85% of it's hull, with it's generous 1000 botts...
Your average joe fighter will regen it's hull 3 times... similar story with shields... Except BS shields don't get regenerated to their full potential from batts..
What you could have is an extra ammount of botts, making your combat more costly...

Oh, i didnt know the nanobots repaired a certain percentage of hull, i thought they repaired something like 400 hull each, which would have meant that if you got an armour upgrade, the overall percentage of hull repaired would have decreased...
