I've got a single class 2 stunpulse on my train, it's there incase I run across any wrecks to loot.
I've said it before and I'll say it again:
If a train or transport HAS to fight, it's as good as dead already.
Kanes right, I've also said before that just because you can do something it doesn't mean that you should.
I've tried mounting gunboat turrets on a train before, it could only support 1 gunboat turret without running out of energy after about 3 or 4 salvoes.
So now if a PC pirate asks for money they'll get it, if he opens fire first then I'll run, but I won't be cruising because then they've got no chance to stop me.
If you want a transport ship that can beat off most attackers go get a liner, but remember that they too are a type of transport so shouldn't have any BS weapons on them.
If you practice enough the class 9 transport turrets are perfectly good enough to get rid of NPCs.
Also if I go ahunting with my phantom or outcast characters and your not interested in RPing, say so.
Though if it happens more then twice your obivously not here to RP so I'd suggest you go find another server.
Right, I'm bitter about this now- partly because those of you that do use GB turrets on trains seem totally nonchalant about it and partly because I just wrote like 5 paragraphs on the subject, forgot my internet at work logs out automatically and proceeded to erase everything I'd just written. So I'll get to the point faster this time and probably sound a bit more abrasive than my normal cheery self:
This is the same as the Mars Flyer turrets issue, it's not that these weapons are massively more powerful/accurate/whatever, it's that players go out of their way to exploit these holes in Discovery that annoys me.
I would prefer that trains and civilian freighter-craft be half as strong as they are now. There are enough trains on the server at pretty much any time to create a convoy for safety, and it would also open up the market for meaningful escorts. The way it is, any rogue trader can fly the whole of Sirius untroubled, and that severely detracts from roleplay (which is not a good thing any way you look at it).
Funny that mostly veteran Discovery players here agree with me, yet the newer ones do not.
So what if you've lost millions? It's not like it's real money.
I agree that trains should get an armour decrease, and probably an increase in how long they take to charge before cruising.
This is because a player pirate stands a better chance of killing 6 NPC trains that are trying to run away then just one PC train.
PC trains are alot harder to kill even without shields.
And your right badger, most of the newer players aren't bothered when you point out that they are unbalancing or over-powering ships, most of them aren't even bothered with trying to RP either.
Well, it was supposed to be like 30 minutes just taking couple missions to get the ID.
Now I have to re-buy that train, again!
This is a trader character so I guess another afternoon of trading will get me where I was before...
No big deal... Really.
Badger, Marauder ... Wholehearted agreement from me ...
Behemoth thank you for making the effort ... Thats following the RP. And we all get a
little bored with the trading, just like work really. Two runs always cover a new trader.

Yea, I don'tl ike trading either. Behemoth, I understand what you meant by that its a temporary thing, but even so, some people can get irritated so its best to just avoid that.
Me, trading is tedious so i set its course and leave it there while I do my homework.

Guys, We can't police the server *THAT* much, even if we wanted to.
Its pretty obvious that Disco is no longer "popular" for Role Play purposes. We're simply popular by our own creation. *smirk*
Bottom line: We cannot put restrictions on what players mount on their freighters.
i was looking at the Transport Turret stats the other day. The Mark III versions are pretty equivalent to the Gunboats turrrets, at least, liberty ones. Personally, I don't mind this. Refire rate of 2.0 matches the Transport turrets, they don't dish out an extraordinary ammount of damage, and they're a b*tch to target with.
This is no different than mounting Gunboat turrets on a Battlestar. The Marsflyer debate resulted in their damage output being lowered *BIG TIME* and the power requirement raised.
Everyone's not gonna look at "unbalanced" the same way. I look at it purely from an stats point of view.
Do gunboats belong on transports? In real life, not really. but this is FREELANCER, where pretty much anything goes, within reason. If it's not in the server rules, then it's pretty much legal.
Sorry gents. While I agree with the idea, in pratical terms, it's not feasible IMHO. Then again, that's up to Igiss.

I dunno if i would still be considered new here but I will always try to RP as much as I possibly can. Propbaly why in PvP my hugy gets owned as soons as I run out of energy and all the cheep people kill me with their battleships with tizonas an gunboat weapons lol urgh
