so i read about the resolution hack to make freelancer work on widescreen monitors (thanks, shigeo!) and i have also read something about a joystick modification/hack that will allow the game to be played w/ a joystick.
i realize that FL was intended to be played with a mouse, but i would still like to try for myself w/ a joystick and see. i really enjoy using my ch products throttle, stick, and pedals for flying games, and want to try FL this way. i have assigned the mouse x & y axis to my ch stick, but one thing i have noticed is that, while it "works", the ship seems always to be constantly spinning along its y axis even when i have stopped moving the stick. ideally, i would like the ship to stop moving (more or less, minus a little newtonian drift) once i have stopped moving my joystick. can anyone give me any suggestions?
overall though, my main hope is that someone will either post or pm me w/ info a joystick hack/modification for the game.
i'm an x3/falcon4 fan, so while freelancer seems a little arcadey, i've heard enough good things about it to want to give it a try. i've already installed the discovery mod, and look forward to exploring the freelancer universe.
Sadly I have wanted the same thing but only found a mouse emulator (joy to mouse - I think). The problem is that the mouse controls are far to touchy and and any emulator will not be sufficient. As much as I want to use a joystick I found the mouse and keyboard to be much better.
what would be ideal is to use all three at the same time.
You set up your turning/strafing/speed/thruster/etc. to the joystick, and then have the mouse used to 'aim'. That way you can aim and evade fire independently of one another. In theory it would make it MUCH easier to pvp in more manuverable craft (fighters/bombers) but it'd definitely take some getting used to.
I have an old thrustmaster setup I have been working on by mapping keys. Working ok.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

can u tell me how you got it to work? specifically, how you stopped the tendency of the ship to keep spinning even after you have stopped moving the stick?
