Easy enough to do (there is a server side feature plugin that supports this feature).
Hard to get everybody to agree on who should be allowed and not allowed through.
Proud member of "the most paranoid group of people in the community"
this seem to have no consideration for the other side of the playing field like the smugglers that rightfully ignore the orders of the navy to stay out of alaska
Simple, being able to buy the commodity is good enough. Put it in guard systems and sold from guard bases only to ensure that the traders at least have some kind of RP (IE a trader who has great rep with a guard faction would logically be allowed to trade through the systems anyway, sometimes anyway.)
Grimly the purpose of the key is to lock down the gate. This will keep the RP that the alaska gate is locked instead of allowing just anybody through. The jump from minor would be unaffected. Plus with the coming mod there is going to be a secondary access point from liberty. I don't see any real place for abuse here just proper role play.
Quote:Avoid building it into ID's. It would limit RP possibilities quite a bit.
Which is the goal of the proposal to begin with. Yet another ludacris proposal by people who want to control others RP.
We want to be in full RP? Lawfuls don't use jumpholes, how about we lock out lawfuls from using jumpholes? That would preserve the continuity and RP of SP freelancer, which is what everyone uses for the benchmark and cites hundreds of times daily.
"But wait, that would limit me, thats not fair..."

jpo, clearly you don't actually seem to grasp the idea that the Alaskan gate in New York is one of the greatest secrets of the Liberty Military and that average-jo Junker wouldn't be able to get through it, let alone get close to it in theory.
The ID would be available but at places where it logically makes sense.
If you can show me how say, a Liberty Rogue, might get the codes to the gate without A)Taking the codes from a Navy ship or B)Getting the codes through bribery etc, then you might have cause to complain about it.
This has Nothing to do with singleplayer or multiplayer, only the fact that throughout the entirety of Freelancer we have known Alaska to be an off-limit military zone.
In regards to this:

Firstly, I have no intention of controlling anyone's RP. I wouldn't call the silent Adv.Trains full of artifacts and with a generic ID very well roleplayed however.
Secondly, yapping on about how clearly this is simply a biased suggestion to benefit the lawfuls is simply silly.
I do not have a single lawful character.
This would actually make it harder for me to get into Alaska. So please refrain from simply flinging false accusations at people.
Once again though, how would a liberty rogue get ahold of the gatecodes to the Alaskan gate without:
A)Stealing them from a now dead Navy ship
B)Bribing an officer for them
C)Getting them off the Junkers. (Though the LSF would try and never let this happen. They only tolerate Rochester since it allows them to keep an eye on the criminal trade and get some public relations boosts every so often with raids)
It should probably just be tied into guard ID's. That way you have to max guard rep to get the ID which lets you travel through more secure gates.
Several jump holes need to be replaced with gates as well, if this change goes through - example: Omicron 100. The order guard system should not be accessible to everyone, why not replace the jump holes at both ends with jump gates that are locked down to non-order-guard characters?
