' Wrote:So let's see it here. Making corporate factions more appealing for the players makes players want to join them. Having more players and with existing corporate actions (like ageira deciding to monopolize their products) means more benefits to the corporations. More players also means more income to the corporation, meaning more money to buy ships and give them to the starting players that have the brain to read the rules and contribute but have no money to start with. They can find a corporation that will teach them how to roleplay and give them a push in their start of discovery fl.
By doing this, new player also contributes in meeting new players - his wingmates, or in this case his convoy mates. People talk while in convoys about many things, form friendships and form future interactions without bad feelings between each others, something that doesn't happen so often.
With all this, comes a new thing, actually involving other players in the game of the corporation. Mercenaries or people that corporation hires to do those illegal things corporations certainly do. Getting rid of competitions, controling that monopoly the corporation issued on their... boron..
This involves other corporations to roleplay with the same corp, forming the bigger convoys, attracting more pirates to the location, pirates that stumble upon a challenge. Few ships in convoy and an escort. Something a lone gunboat can't take alone. he's forced to join up with other indy pirates, bringing them together against a common plunder target, offering even more roleplay about the said situation.
That player from the start, finally grows up and manages to save some cash for his personal ship, that will probably be pirate or mercenary to experience the other side, he knows he can't make it alone, he'll find a corporation or form a corporation of pirates with friends he's met in his convoys, interacting with them.
OH MY GOD, I AM SO FRIKKIN SELFISH, HOW DARE I PROMOTE ROLEPLAY!
Yes, you are, because you're like forcing people to join corporations by restricting independent trade.
The thread was not about buffing corporations, but to nerf independent trade.
By nerfing independent trade you would make it less interesting, and so bring more people to corporation trade.
People would only choose corporate trade because it would better.
Not for roleplay reasons.
Well, I'll comment about something up to the point where it seems to have become a slapfight.
I think the problem is the initial argument is slightly flawed. The problem isn't independent traders with those examples, it's independent traders who are ignoring RP situations. If records indicate that a Freelancer has recently been at a rival's station, they may not get the deal, for instance. Or if they have a criminal record (smuggling, etc). But there are people who ignore anything of that sort in favor of making money, and that seems to be where the sore point really lies.

Yeah, like Kusari/Bretonia smugglers...But that goes for IMG powertraders as well. And quite a number of Republicans. I guess you just can't avoid it.
Thanks for the input, and thanks Ackarion for your answer from an ind trader perspective.
You have some points, yes, not everyone can do these things, but not all corporations should do this. I am asking more for do people agree if some corps do it, not that all corps SHOULD do it. But it would stop some out of roleplay trade that's been going on around.
I think I stated all that I can about this topic, and will now see what can you say.
There should be a hook or something (and I dont know if its possible) similar to the mining bouns, if you have certain ID, certain ship, etc. You get X commodity cheaper than an indie would and sell higher than an indie would. That would be a passive yet effective way to bring traders into corporations. I think...
Yo OPG Ivan, I'm really happy fo' ya and I'mma let ya finish, but some independent traders have the best RP OF ALL TIME.
Seriously, man. I'm a corporation leader too, but thwacking independent traders on the head or messing with game mechanics to give corporate traders a financial advantage is NOT the way to go about doing this. Do it in RP- take out bounties against independent traders with your products, give traders in your faction access to shared 5k's, do what you will, but don't bend the way the game works just to dump on the little guy.
read some of the beginning - but gave up once it became bickering....
about the original question... :
should independents have it harder?
- yes!
do independents already have it harder?
- yes....
so - looks all fine from where i stand. - independents have it harder - and should it harder. thats all well in what we designed as the RP setting of disco.
