Greek/Italian base names, or go by names and the people who say, "Hispania? HOLA CHICOS!"
Gracias, grazie.
If I knew more Italian words, I could simulate the immense similarities, but if you listen to them, you could swear they're speaking Spanish sometimes.
-Edit- And "Don" sounds rather Italian in my opinion... Oh well, like I said, depends on how you look at it.
Note: There are NO Italian bases. Malta's most spoken language in real-life is actually English. The other Outcast bases are named after Spanish, or Spanish-speaking places.
ah, so this effectively clears out outcast. It seems like the myth of outcast dons is mainly generated by players, if I'm right.
For the corsairs though, I am a bit more mystified. Crete? Forgot who possess this place... but, decurion, centurion, legionnaire, are military ranks of the roman legion, yes?
but then you have titan, from the greek mythology...
Tripoli shipyards; tripoli seems to be a libyan city...? I'm not even sure if it has some connection with hispanic roots.
And then there is Leon base, which I may be wrong about, but isn't that French?
"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."
The Hispania colonists are pretty mixed up. The Corsairs are more Modern Spanish/Ancient Greek/Ancient Roman-ish. The Greek bit is because half of the Corsair bases are named after places in Greece (Crete is owned by Greece I think) while the other half (Cadiz, Leon) are named after places in Spain (the weapons are Spanish as well). The Roman bit is because of the ships they use, as Xing said.
Also, the Zoners use many Greek names such as Corinth, Sparta, and Livadia, all of which are found in Omicron-74. They also use Gran Canaria (named after a Spanish-owned archipelago off the coast of Africa), Cape Verde (a Portuguese archipelago off the coast of Africa that gained independence), and Shasta (a Native American tribe)
The Outcasts are more Modern French/Renaissance Italian based. Planet Malta and Corsica Outer Sanctum are named after the French speaking islands of Malta and Corsica. Corsica is still owned by France as well while Malta gained its independence. Bastia Outpost is also named after Bastia, a French port on the island of Corsica. The Renaissance Italian bit of course refers to the government.
Seems like the Corsairs are more Spanish than the Outcasts and it looks like the Outcasts could be allies of Gallia due to the French ties.
Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits

I dont think the populist movements are very strong... the coalition being the only real populist faction operating in the area, but being a global zone operation organisation, it doesnt really count, or such movements arent strong enough to be considered.
I shouldnt think that the xenos are fascist. xenophobic as hell, and anti corporate, perhaps a little commie but not fascist.
Also as to the Outcasts/ Corsair history discussion, Gallia, should it have Outcast ties or vice versa would lead to some interesting sirius wide politicking. perhaps add a legitimacy to the Outcasts and make it a two on one house war versus kusari.
