The way i see it is in a GAME you have the option to make it a fair and honorable fight. After all it is just a game and is meant to have fun with. So the concept of a fair fight is acceptable and touted as a good thing by most players. For the most part though the "fair fight" credo goes out the window as soon as some players start losing. Its all good to go on and on about fighting fair when you are winning but too many times when some are getting their tails whupped they scream for help. Their are a few who will duel until death one ship at a time though and those players are to be respected in my opinion. Like i said this is a game and we are supposed to have fun with it.
Now on the other hand you have the real world we all live in and that is a totally different thing. Human lives are at stake and death and suffering are the result of war. So the idea has evolved that the use of overwhelming force is acceptable to put and end to the war as fast as possible. It is debatable as to weather this works or not. In the real world a soldier is NOT going to drop his rifle and pull out his combat knife if an enemy is coming at him with only a knife. He is going to shoot first and worry about a fair fight once he gets home safely. I have not personally been in combat i did my service aboard a nuclear submarine but i do know a few vets that did see combat and most of them say that when it hits the fan you do what you have to to survive and worry about morals later. For the most part chivalry and the code duello died with the advent of weapons that could kill beyond arms length.
Fair fight?hunting destroyers in your gb(some bh and oc know about what I am talking) unfair fight?when was my indie pirAte in ny(raven claw VHF) hunted by 1bs,2bc,bh destroyer, some gunboats and 2 vhf.and they talked about good work when I exploded.I was really angry on them.
Overkill simply isn't cool. I have been engaged by 6 gunboats while on my Xeno eagle. This simply isn't fun, nor can it be any fun for the people attacking me.
I have been on the side of overwhelming force before now, and I normally stop fighting and RP a technical problem with myship, or simply say "seems my guns ain't needed here, good luck boys", as I find it highly boring, and feel bad about ruining someone's day.
However, 1GB on 1 bomber? Yeh thats fine. I've solo'd GB's with a bomber... That guy was just moaningcos he died. Ignore him.
I just want to say, this mindset isn't shared by all, and some regard overwhelming force as good RP. Their RP is fine, however I am concerned by making every second of the time I play as exciting as possible. Filmic. Simply put, one guy in a fighter getting swarmed by caps isn't realy that exciting in nature, unless....
' Wrote:Consider this you are a zoner mapping systems you enter enemy territory and are engaged by a keeper in his fighter, fair doo's your in his system, you do your utmost to get the Heck out of there, your fighting a keeper and a bunch of npcs, you make it to the JH and through the other side still being chased by keeper, there's another bunch of nomad npcs on the other side your shields are down and your trying to escape, the keeper is still pounding you, along comes an outcast in a rouge gb, ah you say saved, but no the other human in his gb proceeds to join the fight and kills you. did he scan me to find out if I was an enemy no, he calls you a shaved faced ape and lol's when you say that was not very fair. are the outcasts now nomads in disguise and have no qualms about killing other human players, I ask you.?
If you we're to look at other's peoples RP, you would'v realised that Sindroms is aiding the Keepers according to his roleplay. Now, you we're in the home system of the nomads. What did you expect? To me to sitby on my keeper saying ***Ohai*** while you fly through Iota, 99, 90, and back again? Sorry, no.
You we're in our home system, and Nomads don't play nice. And because of that, you died. Simple as that.
Back on a NY poking for the hope of some RP, got myself shot at by three cruisers and three GBs and a hunter GS...of course i died, but i was glad that it actually took 15 min for them to do so.
