The Duane Lee Chapman Memorial Bar and Grill, Sheffield Station; "Sniffer" Martinez, proprietor

[Agmen of Eladesor]

The two pilots came through the door, already half in the bag.

"Marjorie, we need a drink!"

"Oh, Lord, boys, what've you been up to?" Sniffer asked.

The crew of the Athena's Memory sat down at a table. "Not much, Sniffer - just been blown all to hell by pirates AND by our own ship. Now bring us the whiskey."

"Geez, Max, you may drink, but you don't get drunk. What the hell is going on?"

Max slammed back the glass. It was too much for him, and he passed out on the table. His co-pilot looked at him. "Poor bastard - he's got it bad now. You know his wife was killed by pirates, right?"

Sniffer nodded, so Barry continued, "Well, we had to do some recon, like we always do. The poor bastard ran into a girl that coulda been her double - and since the poor, romantic, bastard still loves his wife, he sort of came unglued, thinking that it was her, brought back to life."

"You've miraculously sobered up, Limbaugh - what's the deal?"

"Simple - he's both my pilot and my friend. I drank colored water while he's been getting over her. Or maybe not - because it turns out that the woman he thought was his wife - is actually a cousin to her."

"Good lord, that's a twisted mess."

"Rush" Limbaugh chuckled. "Sniffer, it only gets worse. You know how some of Max's ancestors were on both the Hispania and the Bretonia, due to the way things were on old earth? Which of course complicates life already, since that means he's hunting his own family half the time. Now it turns out his wife had family in Rhineland as well."

Max lay on the table, listening to the tale his co-pilot told Sniffer, playing the drunk perfectly. With luck, the rumors would get circulated around all of Sheffield, and some new contacts could be made from this bit of work that would provide some insight on several things he was investigating.

"Hello, Mr. Martinez."

"Hello, Mrs. Bader. How are things going for you and your husband here now?"

"I think we're fitting in quite nicely here on Sheffield Station. The apartment is very nice that you found us, and Douglas is enjoying work and life again. I thought it was a nasty business, the legs that the Bretonian Veterans Administration were a complete disgrace, especially after all the work he did."

"Some of us knew him from our days in the force, ma'am, and I couldn't agree more."

Just then, the door to the Duane Chapman Memorial Bar and Grill opened, and Sir Douglas Bader, the mewest assistant director of the Search/Destroy Agency walked in. There was the tiniest of whines fromn the servo motors in his artificial legs.

"Ah, my dear, let us dine on the fine repast that Sniffer can prepare in his kitchen. Two of your 'blue plate specials', Sniffer."

Glancing around, he caught the eye of one an S/D pilot. "Boba, my good lad, someone sent me a possible recruiting poster for the company, and I want you opinion." He pulled out the flyer and laid it on the table in front of the bounty hunter.



"Tell me what you think."

It had been very quiet on Sheffield lately. The expansion by the Dogs into Rheinlan - the new contract with Synth Foods - the pilots were just too damned busy to stop in and get a drink.

Sniffer looked up at the sound of the door opening.

"You! What do you think you're doing here?"

"Delivering a message." The shot from the pistol was much quieter than the sound of Sniffer's body hitting the floor.

[Tomtomrawr]

I'm on a short break on Sheffield and so i decided to spend some leasure time in the bar.

As i walk into the smoke filled space the atmosphere in the bar fades and all turn there eyes towards me. As they recognise me for a fellow Hunter they give a faint smile and turn back to there drinks. I walk over to the bar to order a drink.

"A Liberty Ale and a Bretonian Brew my good man." I said to the barman.
He gave a faint grunt to show he understood and went to the taps. He came back 30 seconds later with two drinks, one blue and one dark red.
"So." The bartender started. "You here alone or with a friend?"
"Na, i prefer to spend my time alone. It's better that way, no attachments."
"Ah i see, one of the big time hunters."
"Indeed, i'm a member of the Strontium Dogs, we get alot of action."
"Right i heard about them, there supposed to be the best of the best. But a guy over there said that if he ever saw one he'd rip the Dogs head off."
"Well i'd better go change his opinion, keep the change."
I threw a couple of credits at the bartender and walked over to the table the bartender pointed out and sat down. There were three men there, two average height and a quite large one. I assumed that the large one was the guy who said he'd kill a Strontium Dog if he saw one.
"Alright mate?" One of the average heighted ones asked.
"Yeah i'm fine. So which sector do you guys work for?"
The large man answered for them. "We work in the Alpha 19 defense wing of the station, making sure that Sheffield is safe from the idiotic pirates that come close. Which one do you work in?"
"I work for the Strontium Dogs, you heard of them?"
With the mention of the Strontium Dogs the largest of the three chucked the table out of the way and launched himself towards me. Fortunately for me i was expecting it. I pulled the gun out from my holster and as he jumped towards me i angled the gun so his mouth would land into the barrel. My aim was correct and the back of his throat caught the tip of the barrel.
I took the mix of Liberty Ale and Bretonian Brew and mixed them together, making a green drink. I drunk half of it in the first gulp.
"Now, i don't see why you did that, but fortunately for me i was expecting it. A good hunter always expects an attack wherever he is. Why did you do it mate?"
His words were muffled because of the gun in his mouth, so one of his friends answered for him.
"We don't actually know why he hates the Dogs so much, we think he just has some grudge against them."
I pulled the gun out of the guys mouth but kept it aimed at his head.
"I once applied for the Dogs but they denied my application, said i had to many issues with my anger."
"Well i can see why, that jump attack you tried on me was about as useful as throwing playing cards at a Sabre. I don't want to kill you, you just need to accept you got denied and live with it, there are always other things that come around."
The guy obviously wasn't going for it. Instead he tried another attack, aiming for my stomach with a weak downward punch. I was still sitting down and didn't have much chance of avoiding it, so i simply blocked it with the palm of my hand. He tried again, this time aiming for my face. I pulled out my electronux and stunned him in the stomach. He fell lazily to the floor.
"No hunter would perform like that."
As he gained his breath he pulled something from his pocket. It was a Liberty Rogue pistol, obviusly made by the Rogues because it had there logo on it.
"Say goodbye to life Bounty Hunter scum."
He aimed at my face and fired, but he missed by a mile. I got out of my chair and gave him another punch from my electronux.
"A Rogue eh? God your far from home. I knew you were one because i saw the butt of your pistol from the bar and saw the Rogue logo on the bottom. Also you made a bad choice of pistol by the way, the Rogue pistol is about as good as throwing a peice of paper at a Manta."
I set my electronux to maximum and gave him another jolt. He collapsed and went unconscious.
"I think i'll get another drink."
With those last words i walked away from the scene back to the bar, and ordered a Liberty Ale and a Bretonian Brew.

A new face Opens the door to the bar, a tall slim man with blond hair in his early 20s. Dressed in some BXH branded clothing and heavy boots, and carrying a few data pads he steps through the door and takes a quick look around and gives a friendly smile to those who make eye contact, not all return the gesture.

He quickly walks up the bar counter.

Bartender: "We don't get to many returning faces in here, and its not too often we see new ones either, whats your name son?"

Sebastian: "Its Sebastian, passed through here a few times before in my old baby, just never found the time to say hello."

Bartender: "I see, so what'll it be?"

Sebastian: "Rum, dark if you have it, doesn't matter what brand, cheapest will do."

Bartender turns to the spirits and picks a bottle of rum, pours the glass and hands it to Sebastian.

Sebastian pays the bartender, no tip.

Bartender: "So what happened to your old baby? pirates beat you down?"

Sebastian: "No, i joined S/D, my baby is grounded until after probation.. <Looks sad> Its a fine ship."

The Bartender chuckles

Bartender: "keep it icy out there and you'll see it again soon."

Bartender goes off to server other patrons, and Sebastian is left drinking his rum whilst looking through data pads.

He looks around again seeing if he can get anyone's attention and asks "so what is there to do in these parts?"

[Dashiell]

Raya walks in. first time ever he comes to this place.

"I don`t know you lad." says the bartender

"first time here. never knew this place. heard that the Dogs frequent this place."

"indeed they do... you looking for a job then mate?"

"hm? nah. I`m already with the S/D."

"well, that`s a suprise. you don`t like an ace really"

"I`m not. I`m a moving target, distraction most of the time"

the bartender laughs

"well, it can`t be all that bad. otherwise you wouldn`t be standing here lad"

"huh. yeah... guess that makes sense. sort of anyway"

"how about a drink then?"

"got something without alcohol? I`m having enough trouble not crashing when I`m sober, let alone when I get smashed"

"how about a glass of milk? or some limonade?"

the bartender laughs again

"sure... limonade sounds good. gimme one with a stawberry flavour"

the bartender stops laughing.

"eh, you serious?"

"yeah, I am"

"ok... here ya go"

"don`t I get a straw with that?"

"I don`t have straws, you smartass"

"No straws? what a dump. reminds me of my Molly days"

the bartender walks away angrily

Raya looks around

"man, this REALLY is a dump. how very S/D"

Carly Denver stormed in and sat at the bar, scowling. "Sidewinder Fang, please. With extra fang."

[Zapp]

A Hammerhead fighter enters Sheffield, and out of it comes a brisk Esther Carson. She's met by a stocky man, Jesse O'Brian. He is the first mate of the Prodigal Daughter, Esther's Orca gunboat.

"I tracked 'er, ma'am. She's in the bar. Just got checked outta the Psych ward. I checked her file, get this..." he leans forward and whispers, "she got amnesia..."

Esther thanks him succinctly, and storms off for the bar. When she gets there, she enters like a hunter on the track of some prey, and quite a few of the Hunters in the establishment notice this. The sound of blasters easing in holsters and chairs scraping back slowly makes a momentary cacophony. She quickly spots Carly -- Carolyn -- and comes up behind her.

"Hey there," she says with a level tone.

"Ah, two of my favorite hunters here together." Max DeVirgo, the Assistant Director of the S/D says, as he strolls into the bar.

"Esther, it's always a pleasure working with you. Carly, I think you have some reports to fill out on your activities." As Carly put her head down and grimaced, Max motioned to Esther with his eys, pointing towards the door.
