I was curious, what are the specs of the server running the RP server? and what can we do to help de-stress the server enough where some new features could be added in without pushing the server over the deep-end? like maybe donate cash (USD and such) to help upgrade the server it's on? just curious.
does anyone know what kind of network card/router is used? if it's still running the 100 Mb/s connection on the card/router then I would suggest investing in a gigabit network, as it may allow traffic to move through the network faster which could possibly mean less lag on the server among other things.
I'm just worried, that with the new mod coming out for disco, that the server won't be able to handle everything, especially when the older disco players come back when 4.85 comes out. I know with the server having like 60-70 people on it so far, that the ping is at like 220. so what ever i can do to help, lemme know.
As it stands right now the server is built to the maximum specifications that an FL Server can take advantage of without waste.
Though if you have any suggestions I'm sure Majkp and Korrd would be more than willing to listen.
i'm not sure how much help I could be, as I've only hosted a FL server for a buddy of mine and me, and even on my comp, it was laggy, and that's with 4.84. though, i'm not sure if it'd be possible to get more bandwith, that may be able to help a bit. would have to check:)i think part of the lag issue, is where everyone is connecting from, country/city wise.
Thing is, it's not an issue with bandwidth as far as I am aware. 4mbits is more than enough to host a server for 200 players, but the problem is with the server handling them all. FLServer is not multithreaded, yet still pretty processor heavy, so multiple cores don't benefit it at all. So basically what your FL reports as connection lag may be actual connection lag, or it may be the server being choked by a cheater or a massive influx of peeps. Not much can be done to help that though..

I also suspect (based on warcraft3 coding experience and Microshafts crystal reputation of supreme coding skills), but have no proof, that FL does some fancy memory loss things. Thats why it takes so long to unload when you have been playing for awhile.
...I think...
