There is a keystroke combination that displays a pre-written text macro in the game--something like a greeting.
I hit it totally randomly (though I am pretty sure the keys are grouped on the left side of keyboard) when I first started online play. I can kick myself because I started to write it down and didn't at the time (it was a two years back).
If this could be found would be really interesting. Anyone have any clues?
This isn't imagined or remembered incorrectly, it is an actual macro. I was surprised and went back to the manual and found no mention of it and it was when I was still referring to instructions to set controls.
' Wrote:/setmsg <N> <message> = set message slot N to the specified message; if no message then the slot is cleared and slots 1-9 are valid
/showmsgs = show the message slot contents
/<N> = send the message N to system chat
/l<N> = send the message N to local system chat
/g<N> = send the message N to group chat
/t<N> = send the message N to the current/last target
I wish I could--It was literally like my third day of multiplayer and it was simply something like the generic call to a station or something. No names or places just a sort of "Greetings pilot" or something like that.
It was an in-game native macro--not an add on or plugin from server or mod. I was in single player mode when I hit it. Vanilla freelancer.
Sounds like you used the Hail command. Can not remember what it is off the top of my head, but if you have a target it hails them and they give you a response. Is that it?
I know that there are a handful of actions that aren't included in the manual or mappable, such as... I think its the ' button, causes all of your active guns to fire in the exact direction that they are facing instead of where the mouse is pointing.
I know in one mod there is a thing you hold in your cargo bay taht attracts NPC wingmen to you, and they say "Joining formation" or something... I wish i knew that key. Just push every key taht isnt a number and see what it idoes.
The hail button...while I don't know the key for it...it is the satellite looking thing above your scanner list. Click on an NPC then click the button and they tell you what they are friggin up to...or...in the case of non-vanilla NPCs in non-vanilla systems;
"This is......travelling from the....system....We're on patrol to the.....system"
