It's nice when everything's in a calm controlled environment, and everyone can just do the horizontal jig that bunnies do, ain't it?

The fact of the matter is that the population statistics given by Igiss are actually more realistic than the numbers calculated here.

Leeds' average lifespan is from 55-60 years, the Outcasts have decreased reproductive success(most likely due to a shortening of the fertile window after ovulation), the Corsairs have constant food shortages, and as a result, malnutrition.

Now, slap all of that on top of the fact that NPCs get blown up every single day.

The world's population is low because people get killed.

Space is a dangerous place. Much more dangerous than the world we live in. While people have the potential to live very long lives, there is also a high probability that even with good health, they aren't bound to live long lives due to the ever present dangers every time they undock from a station or a planet.

I'd say the vast majority of the population never undocks from a planet, just like the vast majority of the Earth's population never really travels far from home (relatively speaking).

Medical technology is a thousand years advanced from our own. Certain hellholes will still have a lower life expectancy, but I'd say an average for most planets of 100+ would be a reasonable assumption.

These calculations may be somewhat high, but the current infocards are waaay low.

I'd like to suggest stations as well as planets as relatively safe places, the inhabitants of which rarely venture out.

Check the Leeds rumors. The population's avg. Lifespan is around 55-60.

I would expect the same from similar planets.

The question presented here is not whether medical care is available or not, but who actually can get the medical care. Do you think that the people on Leeds are getting the proper medical treatment? Obviously not, since their lifespan is so short.

Only people in the Capitals/Vacation Planets are going to get good medical care. Stations such as The Ring or the Freeports may provide decent medical care, but not to a great extent.

Most pirate bases? Forget it. The best thing you'll get is a former EMT who has access to a first aid kit and power tools.

Leeds is one of those 'hellholes' I mentioned. It is possibly the worst of the core planets, far worse than even Houston.

And since most of the pirate factions seem to have the funds and backing to produce top-of-the-line combat ships, even capital ships, I would expect them to have at least decent medical facilities on all but their crappiest bases. Even the Xenos and Rogues have supporters in all walks of life in Liberty, finding doctors among them is far from inconceivable. Larger and more organized factions would have it even easier.

I think you've made a mistake in assuming that a pirate base wouldn't have any good medical care. Some of the pirate factions are based out of university communities, for example. Beyond that, if you assume my numbers are correct, you assume very large populations on even pirate bases. Cities. Cities have specialists.

Which is why I stated "Most" pirate bases, not all.

I would expect Kyoto, Cadiz, Corelaine, and Vogtland to have stationed medics, as they are supposed to be the population heavy stations of those factions. They are, in my eyes, the equivalents of bases like The Ring.

I would not expect, however advanced cancer treatment units on those bases. An ER, OR, and patient wards would be more than enough. Advanced care would be restricted to the capitals and developed planets.

ADDITION:

Also, remember this: War is won through resources. Sometimes, it is far cheaper to let your men die than to actually patch them up and allow them to fly again. (Edit 2) For rapidly growing factions like the Hessians, people come by quickly enough to fill up lost ranks. Sentimentality, yes, but that's not the way you win a struggle against one of the most powerful militaries the universe has seen.

There's talk about starvation and such in the history of Sirius. http://discoveryfl.com/wiki/index.php?titl..._Sirius_history

And of course space exploration must have been dangerous and mortality rate high, so I doubt we could have current growth rates in Sirius as we see in Earth now.

Besides Sirius seems to be pretty advanced society meaning that birth rate must have dropped closer to 1 or even below it like all the western countries. We have a population cap in these countries which seems to kick in after certain standard of living becomes a norm.

Flying under radar.

Just to anyone coming up with statistics about population growth...the humans in Sirius live in a extremely advanced society, one which is only barely imagineable for today's common man. Why wouldn't they have something as simple as cloning vats for reproduction?

What about pirate planets?
Malta, Crete?

Remember OC also have Cardamine which increases their life span and also makes them less able to reproduce.

Corsairs? i dunno, i dont know anything about them:P
