Say, there's a situation. I am in a battle against overwhelming forces, and feel the need for backup and fleeing.
I thrust(not cruise) away, and wait for backup to arrive so I regroup with them, and engage the enemies.
Is this allowed?

If they chase you, then the engagement is still hot, they have decided to give chase, and if you happen to transmit your location and have backup arrive...Then you can choose to turn around. Once they attack you again, then you retaliate in self defense with your allies.
This way, your well within the rules.
If they loose you or you loose them and you come back with buddies, that is not allowed.:)

Yes well that sucks a bit. But I understand the possible abuses are the reason it was put into place. I just hate it when something like that kills all posibility of tactics and leaves me with mindless pew pew pew. I just despise that, it should be more than luck, it should be about a superior mind for tactics..Anywho, since you're here, I got one more for ya:
Say there's an Outcast fleet incoming on Tau 44, and they are currently in Tau 37(2 systems away from Tau 23). Is it allowed that say 2 of our bombers intercept them, do a hit and run on the capital ship, and then retreat on afterburn. Then the fleet is engaged in another system(say Tau 23) with our fighters.
Are those bomber pilots allowed to join the fight in Tau 23, either with those bombers or switch to their fighter characters?

If you thrust away 2k or so, that's fine. You can dodge etc still and avoid fire. If you thrust away 10k or so, that's not so fine. You have effectively fled.

Would it be ok because the fight is continued in another system?

As far as I know you cannot actively engage the ships again for 4 hours, but if they enter your system and attack you then you are fine to defend yourselves against them.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.
Nope. Even if they fire on your buddies, nope. However, there is an interesting loophole to this rule:
Say, for example, I attack a CR GB with 2 bombers in Tau-23. I fail, and have to flee back to either Tau-37 or Alpha. I can't re-engage, but I can stay in 37 or Alpha. So, if the CR decide to get revenge, and they attack Alpha, I cannot re-engage them. BUT, what I can do, is stay in the middle of the battle, hoping a CR fires on me. If they do, I can engage, as that is technically self-defense.
EDIT: On an unrelated note, look at your post count, swift.:shok:Haha.
