"All checks confirmed OK. Splendid!"

After pressing the ACCEPT button, the Recruiting Officer closed his Notebook and looked out at the darkening skies. It was definitely time for a beer. If they were in the pub, John Richards and Dave Silver would be buying!

A young, large man in a suit entered the BAF Recruitment Centre. Apart from the couple (dozen) of kilos he should loose, Jack Harkness looked quite normal : no beard, short black hair, brown eyes...

He approched the only BAF member in the room in quite a relaxed way, as if he didn't really care.

"What can I do for you, young man ?" the Recruiting Officer asked.

"Well, I'm looking for my kitten, he's left the house. No, seriously, I'm here to apply, doesn't it seem obvious ?" Jark replied.

"You're funny. I like that - as a civilian. However, I'm on duty, and I shall not accept this." the Recruiting Officer said, angrily.

"My bad" Jack said. "It won't happen again"

"Good. So, you wanna join the Bretonian Armed Forced. Why's that ?"

"Well, I'm Bretonian. If I can make money helping my country, then it's a win-win, don't you think ?" Jack replied, confident.

"You're straightforward. That's good. A lot of people come here, saying they wanna fight for Bretonia, while they're only seeking money. You have to guts to say that you want both. Do you have any expecience in fighting ?" the Recruiting Officer asked.

"Well, on the way here, I met a little group of Mollys. I told them I was headed to the BAF Recruitment Centre. They told me they wouldn't let me. Yet, here I am" Jack replied, proud of what he had done, and the way he put it.

"Good ! That's the spirit ! Can I see your ID, please ?"

"Sure"
----------------------------------------------
First name : Jack.
Last name : Harkness.
Date of birth : October the 4th, 793 AS.
Place of birth : New London.
Nationality : Bretonian.

"Everything seems to be in order. You'll be contacted in a couple of days. Until then, don't do anything foolish. Got it ?" the Recruiting Officer said.

"Sure, no problem." Jack said. "See you !"

"You're not in the BAF yet, but try to show more respect towards us in the future." the recruiter said. "Oh well, anyway... See you, Jack !"

"Heh - two more for the chopping block!" laughed the Recruiting Officer, rather too loudly.

Miss Brown looked in his doorway for a moment and let him know he was being a little over the top; too many glasses of that damn whisky had loosened his tongue and addled his wits.

"Hah! Don't care anyway! Miss Brown! Send those bloody security checks off for that confident lad, er Williams, I think and that young smartass, Harkness - fine chaps, both of 'em if I'm any judge!"

He sat back with a huge smile on his face - lovely whiskey indeed.

"I will bring some strong coffee in to you, sir" said the prim voice of Miss Brown over the intercom.

A tall, slim young man entered the recruitment office wearing wearing all tweed attire and a boyish grin.

*He walks up to the recruitment officer's desk*

"Can I help you?" she asked

"well I certainly hope so, or it doesn't say much for my navigation skills does it?" he replied laughing

Seeing the stern look on the recruitment officer's face he stopped, and cleared his throat

"I'm here to sign up for the Bretonian Armed Forces" he said in an earnest tone

"you'll need to fill out this form" *hands him a clipboard*

"marvellous" he exclaimed enthusiastically

Name: Peter Baskerville son of Earl Thomas Baskerville
Sex: Male
Age: 21
Eye colour: Brown
Hair: short, Black
Height: 6ft
Build: <strike>Slim</strike> Athletic
Place of Birth: New Cambridge

Background: Raised by my parents and a staff of 60. I can trace my lineage back 12 generations on my father's side and 8 on my mother's side. Was privately tutored as a boy and went on to further education at Cambridge University. I always dreamed of joining the BAF, Father said I could join as soon as I turned 21 - he's used his connections to get me some cushy ceremonial position on the Queen's Private liner, he'd be livid if he knew I was doing this but I don't want any favours done for me, I want to be on the front lines, standing shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the Tommys.

Reason for joining: Well for the adventure of course, I want to see the universe, serve Queen and country! My grandfather says they were the best days of his life, of course he's raving mad now but what else is there worth doing in this universe?! I plan to show these Kusaris what can be achieved with a stiff upper lip and some true Bretonian grit!

*Hands in form to recruitment officer*

"Bloody exciting isn't it?" he said

"I can barely contain myself" she replied without humour

"we'll be in touch" she said, without looking up from her desk, although she couldn't help being a little effected by his enthusiasm and added "good luck" as he opened the door to leave, making him beam at her again.

The Recruiting Officer sighed as the papers arrived on his desk.

Another toff for the Service. Another father annoyed at his son's bad decision-making in these difficult times.

"Haha - bring it on!" he laughed, unpleasantly as he sent the papers onwards for checking.

A tall, dark haired Sergeant of the Bretonian Ground Forces in uniform walked in. Speaking loudly on a mobile telephone, the clerk could overhear his conversation.

"Yes dear, I know it was a big step up. No dear I will not reconsider. Yes I thought about the pension. No, I did not reject it because of you. It would have ment leaving my boys behind. Yes I realise I probably wont see them again." There was some screaming on the other end of the phone.

"No dear, I do not love them more then you. I love you very much, you know that. Yes, the children too. yes, bless their little souls." The Sergeant covered the speaker and mouthed 'I'm sorry' to the clerk.

"This is a big reassignment for me dear. I don't care about starting again I'm more use up there then I am down here. I'm not the youngest sergant in the force for nothing. I'll be back on my old pay in no time. I've already flew with some of them. Yes, they are as nice as Johnson. No, Johnson is not going to become a pilot, he took the promotion. I heard that."

By this point, everyone in the room was now staring at the man, studying the tired expressions on his face.

"Listen dear I have to go, they're waiting on me. tell the children I said hi. Well Samantha wont, she was the one who suggested it. No dear, they wont be orphaned. Good bye." and with that he shut the phone.

"Sorry about that." He apologised to everyone present.

"Er, don't worry about it." The receptionist stammered.

"Sergeant Alexander J. Coulson of the Bretonian Ground Forces, 1st Royal Infantry, Explosives Specialist, reporting for reassignment to the Bretonain Armed Forces. It is in my understanding that the boys up there have seen something special in me. I trust my papers have been sent in?"

The Fleet Admiral noticed quite a queue at the Recruitment Centre, and wondered where his Recruitment Officer was.
