So, I want to go play Single Player again, but without Discovery on. So I went to turn it off, and now the game won't even start. I get to the "Freelancer" Splash screen, but it crashes after 5 seconds or so. I re-activate Discovery and it plays fine.
Seeing as this is a problem with just starting up, I highly doubt that the autosave would do it. But there is something that will. If you activate the mod with OpenSP activated, you need to remember to backup content.dll, because(only with OpenSP) it gets deleted once the mod is deactivated. In order to find out if its there or not, goto your FL directory, then DLLS, then BIN and you will either see it there, or not there.
The Discovery modification makes your game work. It contains a CD crack or something similar that tricks your computer into thinking that a disc is being used to run the program. With it de-activated, Freelancer is as if the game where stock out of the box, and you require the disk. You can download a 1.1 exe file containing the crack and replace it with the stock one in the following directory:
Hard Drive (C:) -> Program Files -> Microsoft Games -> Freelancer -> EXE
You can also burn the disk to an ISO file or something similar to an ISO to mount on a virtual drive. This works just as well, but you need at least 600MB for the image. The first way is the best way to go.
Hope this helps
