These vessels seem to fill about the same role, so I thought I'd compare them. They're both luxury transports for rich people.
However, it seems to me like the Kusari version is better in almost every way, and I'll explain how.
First off, the Kusari Luxury Transport has 7 forward-firing transport turrets, versus the 4 + 1 gunboat turret of the Yacht. Now a gunboat turret is nice, but it doesn't equal 3 transport turrets, at least not if you can't mount something like a Battle Razor (which the Yacht cannot, it doesn't have enough power). The Kusari ship has a lower power core, but that matters little since transport turrets won't dent it.
Secondly, the Kusari Luxury Transport has wicked-fast maneuverability, which seems to be superior to just about all transports or even gunboats (maybe not the AT or Gaian GS, I dunno). The Yacht has good maneuverability, superior to some gunboats and all larger transports, but it doesn't match the Kusari ship.
Thirdly, the Kusari Luxury Transport has an impulse (non-thrust) speed of 100. 20 more than any other transport, and 10 more than any battleship. It thrusts to 160. The Yacht also thrusts to 160, but it lacks the impulse speed increase (as far as I know, I didn't notice it having increased impulse and the infocard doesn't mention it).
Fourthly, the Kusari Luxury Transport is much smaller (and harder to hit) than the Yacht, while retaining far more cargo space (2500 versus the 1500 of the Yacht).
Fifthly, the Kusari Luxury Transport has a CD to go with its CM. The Yacht has 2 CMs, which is nice, I suppose, but I don't know how useful it would truly be, or if it's worth the loss of a CD. The Yacht infocard says it has a CD mount, but the ship lacks it. Maybe this is a mistake on the model, maybe it's a mistake on the infocard, I don't know.
And last, but far from least, the Kusari Luxury Transport costs 12.6 million credits, while the Yacht costs a whopping 72 million.
I say that the two are unbalanced versus each other, despite serving the same general purpose, and that the Yacht doesn't get enough for the cost and/or the Kusari Luxury Transport gets too much for the cost.
you have some valid points - but let me state some other ones....
- the luxory yacht is totally generic ( even lawful / unlawful ) - the kusari yacht is .... kusari
- i think the luxory yacht has more armour ( 170k vs. 75k )
- 2 CMs do make a difference - not a huge one, but it does
so - generic ships suffer from being generic - compared to factionized ships. - the yacht is fully defensive and really more a smuggler / RP ship. - the kusari yacht is more a transport, and yes... its size / agility might be a bit too great + maybe the CD is too much... .

Dual CMs make a huge difference, especially so if they are different types.
Lawful transports don't really have much use for a Cruise Disruptor in my opinion. The lawfuls usually stop smugglers with combat-oriented ships.
A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.
Also on the yacht i noticed that on the info card where it says about the amount of armor it has, it does not label it, just say armor. so it looks like.
Armor : Armor
instead of
Armor: 75000
As for cruise disrupters, why would luxury yachts even need one. they're for luxury, not policing things.

I know generic ships tend to be slightly inferior to others, but that much?
I did forget to mention the armor... The Yacht has faaar better armor, but I don't think that entirely balances the two. I still think that, especially with the price differences, the Yacht should be a fair bit better than it is (and the Kusari ship could probably use a bit of a nerf).
Is the Yacht supposed to have a CD? It would be really nice if it did, and the infocard mentions it.
Edit: Yacht has 170k armor, I believe, the Kusari Luxury Transport has 75k.
And CDs can help a lot when evading pirates/lawfuls/anyone chasing.
does the yacht have a CD? - yes... i certainly gave it one ( just checked hardpoints ) ... it must have been deactivated. not sure if it needs a CD though ... its still a luxory yacht, not an assault yacht.

Are you positive? I've discussed the two ships with several people, and two of them have told me that the Kusari ship has 100 impulse and 160 thrust to go with it.
So, if you're correct, the Kusari Yacht has higher impulse, slower thrust, while the generic Yacht has slower impulse, higher thrust?
Fully agree. I own the Kusari Geisha, and I'm going to purchase the Democritus Yacht tomorrow or soon enough, and I'm a little stunned by how insanely good the Geisha is (until I realised it was a kusari ship! ho ho! ah seriously. These jokes exist for a reason) and pretty disappointed by how tame the Yacht is.
I mean yeah, okay, neither of these ships are combat ships, fair enough. But there are a bunch of other ships that aren't combat ships that could destroy the luxury yacht, and cost a third of the price. The yacht's infocard makes it sound ridiculously powerful (literally ridiculous. who wrote that?), yet it is actually really rather flimsy. Yeah, it has a gunboat turret. One. And only 4 transport turrets. There is nothing, to my knowledge, that approaches the size of the yacht, and is so feebly armed. The luxury liner isn't a combat ship, but a quarter of it could probably kill the yacht. Think about it, this ship is basically the purest luxury/playboy/moneywaster that exists, and it's obscenely expensive for what it is. In reality, this thing would have something going for it. If it wasn't the armament, it would be ridiculously fast and manoeuvreable.
I'm not asking for this ship to be amazing, but just, at least better than something that is a sixth of the price and better in literally every single way except armour. I mean, how many people have already bought this ship, basically purely because of the word 'Luxury' in its name? These people don't want to go around 'pvpwhoring' or whatever, but if they're anything like me, they would at least like the ship they bought to be awesome in some way.
I mean, it is basically as good as a transport and about a third of a gunboat. Which should make it cost about 12,000,000, much like the kusari geisha. But it costs 72,000,000. What. I want some return on my outlay! If it really is a luxury yacht, make it damned luxurious! Give it something that sets it out from the crowd and justifies the expense. I mean, isn't that the whole point of this sort of vessel?

Well, I understand that, agree to a point, but as-is the Kusari Luxury Transport is probably the best pirate vessel in Discovery, by far, and is extremely cheap for what it is (both in RP and OORP).
The Yacht is the one who's infocard says, "enough firepower to knock a small moon out of orbit". It seems like it would be the 'assault yacht', not the Kusari version.
